This week in fashion news, we bring you the hottest red carpet looks from the ARIA awards, the sexy runway of Victoria’s Secret Fashion show and more!
Alexander McQueen’s legacy to live on in a grand exhibition
One of the most elegant fashion events of the year is without doubt the Vogue annual Costume Institute Gala, and for 2011 it is set to be the biggest yet. Beginning on May 2nd, the gala will begin at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where guests will be treated to an exquisite exhibition of Alexander McQueen’s work.
Just two days later, the exhibition, titled “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” will be open to the public (mark it in your diaries!) and will run until July 31st.
The exhibition is so vast that it covers work from McQueen’s graduate collection during his time at Central Saint Martins up to his last collection. This is set to be the most anticipated fashion exhibit of the year (if not the next decade!)
The Angels are back- all the highlights of the Victoria’s Secret show
Celebrities from around the world know there is one fashion show they must be at each year, and that is the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. Held on Wednesday this week in New York, the show was a sexy, sassy and in true VS style, excessively glamorous.
Katy Perry was the standout singer to perform on the night as she wore a skimpy bright yellow bustier dress, which, naturally, was covered in pink love hearts. The recently married Perry sung a number of songs including Teenage Dream and California Girls. Singer Akon also took his turn on stage, as he serenaded the beautiful Angels while they strutted their stuff.
Of course the highlight of the show was the Victoria’s Secret Angels, whose outfits featured stunningly intricate lingerie, set off with the signature angel wings (we wonder how they manage to balance sometimes in heels!)
Some of our favourite models walked, including Rose Huntington-Whiteley, Adriana Lima, Jessica Stam and Alexandra Ambrosio, but unfortunately our own Miranda Kerr wasn’t involved due to her pregnancy.
The ARIA awards- red carpet style
Here in Australia we celebrated our biggest music event for the year, with the annual ARIA awards. Whilst we could rehash all the winners from the night, it seems much more exciting to check out the red carpet fashion, because, that’s what we do best!
The girls made us proud this year with some utterly cute cocktail dresses and bustiers. Ruby Rose went daring, as she usually does, in a Miu Miu play-style dress equip with stunning lace and embellished coloured stones (and the matching shoes were just too cute!)
Kelsey Martinovich, who was this year’s runner up in Australia’s Next Top Model, wore a sexy sheer bustier dress with a flattering tulip skirt by designer Paule Ka.
The hottest new female singer to hit the charts Megan Washington, was decked out in a stunning red lace dress by our very own Alex Perry, whilst Jessica Mauboy looked divine in a vibrant hot pink and orange sculptured dress by Toni Maticevski.
