Witchery Fronts White Shirt Campaign
WItchery is partnering with the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation to produce a truly beautiful line of white shirts, and 100% of the profits go to research into a disease which affects many Australian families.
This is a great opportunity to combine sartorial taste – who doesn’t want a classic white shirt? – with the chance to make change. Once they’re out, buy one for yourself, all your friends, and your great-aunt Millie. She’ll appreciate it.
Blake Lively Too American For Chanel?
Blake Lively is the first American to front a Chanel campaign, but fashion insiders whisper that all at Karl Lagerfeld’s empire aren’t happy with her California-girl, tanned and cheerful looks.
The Gossip Girl has produced an ad and thus far is staying with the company, but Chanel’s people might believe her image is (gasp!) not elite enough for the brand.
Balmain Designer Leaves In Cloud Of Confusion
Remember the military-style jackets with the huge shoulder pads and the glittery epaulettes on every fashion editor last season? Their designer, Balmain’s Christophe Decarin, is leaving Balmain, and nobody’s given any reasons for the split.
Hints of the break-up first came when Decarin didn’t show for Balmain’s latest shows, citing ‘exhaustion’. Under his watch Balmain has scored magazine covers and prized editorials, so whatever happens next will be crucial for Balmain’s future.
Candice Swanepoel Criticised For Weight Loss
The formerly voluptuous Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel (centre, at left) showed up to show off the line’s new swimwear range looking far less healthy than usual. She blames it on travelling, but this is a problem for the brand.
If Swanepoel is going for a more high-fashion (read: ’emaciated’) look, Victoria’s Secret may have to reconsider her as an Angel; all Angels are supposed to look healthy and strong, with muscles and, mostly importantly, boobs.
In other Victoria’s Secret news, the designer of the Angels’ famous wings has been employed by NASA. As you do. He also dropped the titbit that Gisele Bundchen is, shall we say, less than amiable to work with.
Gorman Takes Adelaide
Gorman, the Australian line known for its eclectic, ethnic mix of prints and shapes, has opened its first store in Adelaide. The new range, called ‘Artful Wanderer’, incorporates inspiration from Brazil, Africa and Mexico. If you’re in Adelaide and want a little vacation in fashion form, pop down to Hunter Street and check out the collection.
The Sartorialist In Hot Water
One of Time Magazine’s top 100 design influences, Scott Schumann himself, has got himself into very dire straits with his readership after he called a woman who couldn’t be more than a size 6-8 ‘curvy’ and called attention to her ‘sturdy’ build.
Readers expressed their fury that a woman who’d be considered tiny by any reasonable standard was being commented upon as ‘curvy’ when she had little to no curves at all, wondering where that left them. Schumann was unrepentant.
