RESCU: What topical products can be used and what kind of results are realistic?
Frank Apostolopoulos: Treating frizzy hair is a matter of introducing moisture back into the hair.
A moisturising shampoo and conditioner for dry and/or damaged hair should be used for every wash and once a week a deep conditioning treatment or mask should be applied. The results are almost instant to having beautiful silky hair!
Try L’Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Absolut Repair Shampoo and conditioner to rescue dry, damaged hair.
RESCU: What professional treatments are available and what is your take on each?
Frank Apostolopoulos: Chemical straightening is still a chemical service that tames the frizz but doesn’t take away the damage. I would recommend a professional in salon treatment, deep mask treatments, leave in treatments and Keratin Oil is one of the main protein treatments for hair. It gives hair the ability to return to its original healthy, shiny, silky state. Hair strands straighten, become thicker and impervious to humidity. Hair not only looks healthy and shiny but it stays that way.
RESCU: What cut and style is best suited for this kind of hair for women and men?
Frank Apostolopoulos: I personally think that longer hair would be more manageable for unruly hair. The weight in the hair would help it sit a lot better. Styling and adding long layers to give it shape will also.
For men it needs to be short, short hair all the way!
RESCU: What styling tools (irons, wands, rollers) can be used to manage frizz and unruly hair?
Frank Apostolopoulos: Flat irons (ceramic plates are excellent) or curling irons will tame frizz and give the hair shine. Also a good round bristle brush works well for a smooth, natural blow wave.
It is important to portion the hair in small sections and blow dry slowly over each section.
RESCU: What ingredients should we look for in products to tame frizz (silicone/oils/proteins etc)?
Frank Apostolopoulos: Professional products stocked in professional salons all have a range for frizzy unruly hair. Ingredients that you should be looking for those which have an oil base. Protein oils are breathable, that’s why we recommend Keratin oil. Silicone will suffocate hair and cause dehydration, which is why many of the new ranges out are silicone free.
I suggest you try L’Oréal Professionnel Série Nature Masque Aux Huiles Treatment masque for rebellious and unruly hair. It’s silicone, colourant and paraben free and great for taming frizz.
RESCU: How does colour affect this kind of hair? Is there a colour treatment that is best and any that should be avoided?
Frank Apostolopoulos: Depending on what colour you have a semi permanent colour would be more conditioning for your hair. Bleaching wouldn’t be recommended as it would be more damaging on the hair.
