Ferragamo’s spring campaign was an ode to one of our favourite icons, Grace Kelly. Keeping with the movie star theme, it appeared that the look for Autumn/Winter 2010 was inspired by another silver screen siren, Greta Garbo. However, rather than her 30s wardrobe, clothes in this collection were modernised a little and there was a distinct 70s vibe.
Earthy Autumn at Ferragamo
The collection comprised mainly of tailored daywear in earthy, autumnal colours of brown, beige and mustard.
Knitted vests were belted and worn with neck ties, suede trenches fell softly and capes with leather trimming swung from the models’ shoulders. Chunky turtlenecks were combined with lurex and leather shorts and accessorised with fedoras, beanies and suede boots.
We were relieved that amongst the day wear, there were still Riviera worthy liquid metal dresses that elegantly swayed in the breeze as models gracefully strode down the runway in them.
Cross-breeding at Cavalli
It was more bohemian chic than the type of wild sex goddess that we expected from Roberto Cavalli, but there were still enough animal prints used to convince us that Cavalli is indeed King of the Jungle. In fact so much so that he no longer relies on standard leopard prints, but has turned into a cross breeder and come up with his very own unique animal print.
Delicate lace leggings, sparkling sequin and wide legged chiffon creations that looked like something out of ‘Arabian Nights’ were worn with luxurious fur coats of mink, fox and even raccoon in this unique animal print. Layered vests, shirts and scarves gave even more texture and interest to the look.
The Cavalli lady is still wild at heart and she wears her heart on her sleeve.
Fetish ballerina at Versus
There was a bondage feel to the Christopher Kane designed collection at Versus for Autumn/Winter 2010 with high gladiator sandals, peek-a-boo bras and cut-out panels on display. But rather than a dominatrix feel, the look was more punk ballerina.
Organza petticoats and angora cardigans made their way down the runway next to acid washed t-shirts and satin, which was pleated and used to create edgy Rock n Roll tutus in bright orange and aqua. Time to turn up the music.
