Fashion has truly been alive and well this year, with a range of fresh and innovative looks injecting a welcome vibrancy into up-and-coming brands. With fashion labels such as Sosume and Trash and Luxury, along with accessory newcomers Burn Bridges, Mercurialist, and Jude – for sweet sixteens through to thirty-somethings – summer 2010 shapes up to be an exciting time.
Rescu. had a sneak peak at a recent BAM Pop Up event, a promotional exhibit showcasing young talent, and here’s what we can report.
Sosume
Easy and elegant are the two words that best describe the flowing style of this design trio. Sosume is clothing with a conscience, and their natural perspective is evident in both their eco-friendly choice of fabrics and the organic nature of their look.
Drawing from a palette of white, grey and charcoal, their upcoming collection will make light work of summer style – and with machine washable fabrics, they are also carefree.
Bringing chic back to the shirt, Trash and Luxury’s summer collection is hot, hot, hot. French images are set ablaze with colours that echo Warhol, and with cuts that incorporate sexy cut-outs and three quarter sleeves. This is high end style with an edgy execution to create dynamic fun looks.
Burn Bridges
Long before Twilight, all things darkly poetic were inspired by the work of Shakespeare, which is the source material for Teenage Decay, the androgynous yet intriguing jewelry collection from Burn Bridges.
You’ll be undeniably drawn to these striking gothic pieces, each handmade, and as unique as the timeless love they are bound to inspire.
Mercurialist
Offering leather bags and satchels through to necklaces and cuffs, Melbourne’s brother and sister team, Mercurialist, are reinvigorating old world design.
The duo’s Doctor Cairo bag captures a classic academic style and brings a touch of Indiana Jones with it; and their Chemistry pendant captures an experimental yet industrial feel.
Jude
Still a fashion student, the designer behind the Jude accessories 2010 Nocturnal collection demonstrates a mature artistry and a strong design aesthetic.
Consisting of brooches, corsages, necklaces and shoulder pads, Jude combines a rock and gothic feel to create eye-catching pieces.
