Annual international short film festival Flickerfest kicked off on Friday night with an Opening Screening and After Party at iconic, beachfront venue Bondi Pavilion. A mixed crowd of actors, directors, television personalities, and film buffs mingled in the second-floor Flickerfest Bar before filling the Amphitheatre seats for the evening screening.
Attendees enjoyed eight short film highlights from the festival, including “At Home With Elvis,” featuring an animated Elvis, a subtitled French film “It’s Not A Cowboy Movie” set entirely in the school toilets, and “Lois,” a film about unfinished business, starring legendary actress Jacki Weaver.
Following the screenings, guests, including Gracie Otto, Damien Walshe-Howling, Dan Ilic, and David Whitehill, snacked on Misschu canapés and popcorn-flavoured macaroons. Drink selections included Rosnay Organic Wines, Little Creatures, Crystal Head Vodka and Phoenix Organic Juices.
After the recent soaring temperatures, the balmy night was a welcome break and the party spilled out onto the Bar’s balcony. In keeping with this year’s “Blue Hawaii” theme, Elvis Presley tribute artist and impersonator Jacqueline Feilich provided the quirky entertainment.
In its 22nd year, Flickerfest is on until January 20th at Bondi Pavilion with a program of screenings from top Australian and international short films. Screening sessions are approximately 100 minutes and are moved indoors, in the case of rain. After a Closing Night awards, screening and bash, the festival will hit the road touring at over 40 venues across Australia.
