We are big fans of Julianne Hough and her beautiful braid! They’re not only a great way to keep frizz-prone hair at bay but also a sneaky way of hiding a fringe on a windy day. If your hair just isn’t sitting right, braids are the perfect alternative and look amazing. Barney Martin of Barney Martin Hairdressing gives us a guide to get the side braided fringe at home:
Before you begin, Rescu. Recommends: Pantene Pro-V Iceshine Shampoo and Conditioner ($7.99 each). Unlike most hair products, Pantene’s latest Iceshine Shampoo and Conditioner have no added silicone, dye or paraben leaving your hair with a natural healthy looking shine. This natural gloss will catch the light in your beautiful braid and make it look even more glamorous.
1. Part your hair into a deep side part and plait down the hairline towards your face. For a tighter look keep the plaits smaller with less hair and for a chunkier look, incorporate more hair into the plait.
2. Once you have plaited it down to the hairline, bring the braid to the side and continue to braid down, bringing in hair down from the crown. This will create that dropped side fringe look.
3. Once you have reached the back of your head, plait down as usual without bringing in more hair into the braid or tie the ends in to create a simple up-do. Pin the braid to the side of the head to secure.
4. Finish off with spray to keep the braid in place. To achieve a more effortless, undone look like Julianne Hough’s, gently pull on the braided hair to loosen it up.

For a different take on the traditional braid, try the twisted braid. This style is more tight, sleek and has tribal look to it:
1. Take two sections of the top of your hair and twist them around – both clockwise or anti-clockwise.
2. When twisting the two sections together add in small sections of hair with each time you overlap the hair, similar to a fish braid, making sure you twist the extra hair into the bigger twist.
3. Once you’ve braided down enough, secure it to one side with a pin and bring hair down to cover the end. Finish with spray to hold the hair down and sleek.
