The Myer Miss Shop RSFF show, held on Saturday afternoon, started with a carnival atmosphere – male models warmed up the catwalk with cartwheels, tap dancing and standing on their heads. Another highlight was the much-anticipated launch of the Milk & Honey range by model and MTV Australia host Ruby Rose.
Speaking from backstage, Ruby Rose described her clothing range as “rock chic.” She said “it’s music, fashion and art turned into clothing.” Ruby, who drew the crowd’s attention to the cute ice-cream sundae pendant she was wearing, also claimed her motto is “dare to be different”.
Ruby’s range for Milk & Honey was colourful and edgy, with plenty of printed singlets that are “adorned with messages of equality and self expression”, according to Ruby. There was also a digital print dress and distressed denim shorts.
Whilst we loved Ruby’s eye-catching designs, we gravitated towards a one shoulder dress by Bardot as our favourite. It was a pastel mint green colour and looked perfect for both spring and summer soirees. We also liked a sophisticated one-shoulder dress in black, and a cute, three-tier ruffled skirt, both by Motel. Ruffles also featured in designs by Kuku, Miss Shop La De Da, and Mucci & Me.
The Miss Shop show was a real kaleidoscope of colour. We noticed lots of pastels and florals, but there was also plenty of bright yellow and fluorescent pink. Blue Juice and Bettina Liano both displayed eye-catching shades of bright blue.
There were heaps of midriff-exposing tops, short denim shorts and cute printed bikinis, which made us feel very conscious that we hadn’t had time to go to the gym all week. All the models sported tanned skin and loose, flowing ‘beach hair’. A famous face on the catwalk was indigenous model Samantha Harris.
Another trend that stood out were maxi dresses. We’re glad that the maxi dress is back for spring/summer. A gorgeous floral maxi-dress by Bardot is firmly on our spring/summer wishlist.
For accessories, there was boater hats, summery scarves (as seen on Riders for Lee), and long necklaces (Minty Meets Munt and Tokito).
