Australia’s number one network for corporate women, Business Chicks, was endorsed by none other than US fashion queen Diane Von Furstenberg at a sold out lunch in Sydney.
Hosted by media personality Sandra Sully the event attracted 660 women – and a few men – who were treated to the personal story of how Diane became a self-made billionaire.
When asked what inspired her, Diane replied, ‘I am inspired by all women. I have never met a woman who is not strong,’ she said. ‘Some women may never show it, and for some it’s hidden under incredible hardship or misery, but if you scratch the surface you’ll always find strength.’
It was Diane’s first visit to Australia in more than two decades and Business Chicks hosted the only public event that Diane attended during her visit– testament to the cause they are advocating.
Holding the largest events on the corporate women’s calendar in Australia, Business Chicks will be ending their busy year with breakfasts in Sydney on Friday 9 November and Melbourne on Friday 16 November with guest speaker Somaly Mam.
Somaly, from Cambodia, was sold into the sex trade at age 12 and after miraculously escaping has been fighting for all the girls left behind.
Emma Isaacs, Business Chicks CEO, said the breakfasts with Somaly were for anyone who was passionate about making the world a better place for women and girls.
‘That’s really what’s behind Somaly’s work and ours at Business Chicks,’ she said. And don’t think that because you’re not a ‘chick’ you can’t join in on the fun.
‘Men are welcomed at our events with open arms; if things are going to improve for women, men need to be a part of that dialogue. At Business Chicks we don’t discriminate against anyone – everyone is welcome,’ Isaacs said.
