Gai Waterhouse Wins Melbourne Cup
It was celebrities galore at yesterday’s Melbourne Cup, as the stars gathered to celebrate the nation’s biggest day of racing in style.
As Gai Waterhouse’s horse Fiorente crossed the finish line, international super stars Dita Von Teese, Kate Upton and Coco Rocha gathered trackside to celebrate the ‘race that stops the nation.’
Local celebrities, including Myer ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith, Laura Dundovic and radio hosts Hamish and Andy also joined in the festivities.
The ever-stunning Kate Waterhouse was aglow as her mother’s horse, which was favourite to win, took out the prestigious $6.2 million prize.
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was also a big winner on the day, putting $500 on Fiorente to win— because she is currently renting her house from Gai Waterhouse!
“I haven’t met her but I thought it was a nice thing to do,” she said.
Star-spotting and horse racing weren’t the only items on the agenda, with the Lavazza marquee surprising guests with a performance by rock legend Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi fame.
Richie treated fans to a rendition of his hit ‘Livin’ on a Prayer.’
Gai said winning horse Fiorente was “the model of consistency…he’s never put a foot wrong.”
She described winning the cup as “delightful— a real ride.”
Gai has taken second place in the cup three times previously, but this is her first win— and she is the first female trainer to win since 2001.

Lea Michele Opens Up About Cory Monteith
Bereaved Glee star Lea Michele has opened up about the death of her partner and costar, Cory Monteith, for the first time.
In the December issue of US Elle, Lea speaks about how she is coping with the passing of Cory, what she has taken from the experience, and what is next for her.
“I never thought I would be in this position in my whole life,” Lea said.
“Now that I am in this position, you can choose to rise, and that’s what I’m going to try to do,” she revealed.
Lea said that it is important to remain resilient through such challenges, and that “you have to be very strong to come out of this alive.”
An unexpected source of comfort for Lea was actress Kate Hudson, who Lea stayed with when tragedy hit.
“I called and said, ‘I don’t know where I’m going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters].’ She was like, ‘Oh you’re going to stay at my house,’ like it was nothing.”
Lea also hopes to help others gain strength through her own resilience.
The beautiful starlet has also revealed a brand-new tattoo, of Cory’s last words to her, “If You Say So,” taking her ink count up to 15.
We must say it’s amazing the durability Lea has demonstrated through this incredibly difficult time.
Amanda Bynes to Be Released from Psychiatric Care
We haven’t heard from former child star Amanda Bynes in a while— and silence is probably golden given her troubled history.
But a little peep of news has finally popped up, and it’s nice to hear something positive about the star for once!
Amanda, who has been in psychiatric care since July, is due to be released in time for Christmas!
Amanda was sent to a Malibu rehab facility after setting fire to a random person’s driveway earlier this year— and in the process setting her tracksuit pants alight, and dousing her dog in petrol.
She was subsequently diagnosed with scizophrenia and bipolar disorder, explaining her increasingly bizzare behaviour in the lead-up to being placed under involuntary psychiatric hold.
Her parents released a statement recently, saying that “Amanda is making great strides towards recovery.”
She has also been allowed two supervised outings per week, with sources stating she will be released within the month.
We hope Amanda is home in time for Santa to squeeze down her chimney!
