Gary Bigeni has a signature aesthetic of crisp, clean silhouettes. His latest collection, shown at RAFW Day 4, brought pastels and heavy draping to an otherwise uncomplicated look.
Gary Bigeni’s slim lined and simple aesthetic has been a favourite amongst the fashion pack since his first collection. His love for clean lines and soft fabrics like jersey has caused the designer to remain as to the go-to label for pieces that will make you feel great and look amazing. Gary Bigeni showed at RAFW this year with his new collection that kept entirely with his aesthetic yet added unique design elements to add life and individualism to his work.
As the show began with sounds of metal works and loud bass, models entered the runway in crisp white ensembles, contrasting against the heavy music. In taking inspiration from Alexander Wang’s latest runway show, models hair was slicked back with grease on the forehead and left out at the back. Soft pastels of burnt orange and blue featured on eyelids, with a rose tinted lip.
White was the key look for the first several outfits, featuring in tailored blazers and matching suit pants and crisp white jersey singlets with draped detail at the back. The first touch of colour to hit the runway came out in a soft dusty pink, in a draped top, and then featured again in a floor length jersey maxi dress.
Gary played with heavy draping, and light panelling in his pieces, pulling fabric down at the back of tops and dresses, causing an elongated look. The key colour palette was pastels set amongst white, ranging from sky blue to dusty pink and burnt orange. Whilst the majority of the collection was billowing jersey dresses, tops and skirts, Gary also featured some more corporate attire, in structured high waisted body con skirts and vests.
Towards the end of the collection, a burnt orange leather jacket livened up the clean aesthetic, and was paired with a rose pink singlet, brown waisted belt and stone skirt. Gary’s key look reaches a market that love simple and clean lines, yet thrive on special detail found in a draped neck or low slung dress back.
