Spring is all about new beginnings so it’s the perfect time to update your hairstyle.
We got Redken hair director Todd Arndt on board to help us suss out the latest runway hair trends.
RESCU: What kind of cuts will we be coveting in the coming months?
Todd Arndt: Spring/Summer cuts are working around multi-textured panelling, where more work is done using the natural textures of the hair. The cuts are less contrived with minimal straightening and blow drying is used to add more style to the cuts. Another trend for the season is definitely mid-length cuts that we’ve seen on celebs such as Alexa Chung; just above the shoulders but not too short.
RESCU: What about colours? Any obvious trends this season?
Todd Arndt: We are seeing a lot of faded out blonde and brunette hair colours. Every shade is going warmer and richer with more golden-copper tones in season.
RESCU: What are your favourite Celebrity hair trends at the moment? Whose look do you love?
Todd Arndt: Kylie Minogue’s strong one length Bob haircut that sits just above her shoulders is one of my favourites. Isabel Lucas has an amazing hair colour with a regrowth effect. The regrowth look or balyage as it’s known, is in fashion with celebrities such as Rose Byrne and Camila Alves rocking the look.
RESCU: Braids were all over the runways this year. Are they still in or on their way out?
Todd Arndt: Braids are definitely still in. The style trends for this season are natural textures; think soft, loose braids and panel work using cornrows. A lot of the styles are not as sleek as they were in winter. Some celebrities wearing the braid best are Hayden Pannettiere and Vanessa Hudgens. Vanessa wears loose braids with a laid-back, urban vibe.
How to create the loose braid look:
1. Prep the hair with Redken Touch Control 05 mousse to help build dry texture and movement through the braid.
2. Part the hair to one side.
3. Beginning at the nape, braid the lengths to one side so that it rests over the shoulder.
4. To finish, use Redken Vinyl Glam 02 for added shine and light hold.
