Expert Hair: Cate Blanchett’s Up Do’

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Red carpet fashion favourite, Cate Blanchett is always the creme of couture when she steps out to an event, including her flawless hair and makeup. Learn how to get her chic up do’ from the 19th Annual Elle Women in Hollywood Celebration with hair expert and Morrocanoil Ambassador, Robert Vetica.

Gracing the white carpet, Cate Blanchett arrived at the 19th Annual Elle Women in Hollywood Celebration looking more radiant than ever. She wore a lively, multi-colored Proenza Schouler dress with an elegant French twist created by celebrity stylist and Moroccanoil Global Brand Ambassador, Robert Vetica.

Get Cate Blanchett’s Hair Look:

“I blow-dried her hair straight, using a small amount of Moroccanoil Treatment Light on the ends to condition and add smoothness and shine to the hair. Moroccanoil Treatment Light also helped to speed up blow dry time by making the hair more manageable.”

“Next, I set hair with Velcro rollers. I sprayed 2” by 2” sections with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium and placed the rollers upwards, back and away from her face. This gave the style added lift at the root without needing to tease the hair.”

“I made a side part and pulled the hair back, while pushing strands on top and designed a deconstructed French twist. I secured the look with several hidden bobby pins.”

“Finally, I combed the hair on her forehead smooth for a sleek, polished look, and finished by spraying on lightweight Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium for natural-looking hold with beautiful shine.“

Moroccanoil® is sold exclusively in salons. www.moroccanoil.com.

Up-Do’s To Suit Your Face Shape

An up do’ is a brilliant idea for the hot summer months, getting it off your neck whilst looking cool as a cucumber.
But like clothing, not every shape is for you! Find out which chignon, bun, pony and side sweep is right for your face shape, to accent your features.

Oval Face:

With your well proportioned features, almost anything is possible! Your hair will look just as good pulled into a tight top knot as it does flowing by your shoulders.
Bangs or a fringe will accentuate your eyes, but be careful, too much hair in your face will hide your facial structure.

Round Shaped Face:

The goal here is to slim the face. Don’t go for the slicked back Terri Biviano look as this will only make your face appear wider.
Focus on up-do’s that sit at the crown of your head, try a French twist with soft curls.
Use off centre parts, tussled bangs or curls as a feature to throw off the roundness. No straight, flat bangs!

Heart Shaped Face:

Where your forehead is wider than your jawline, your are aiming to achieve balance. You can opt to wear your hair half up and half down to balance out your jaw line. Accentuate with bangs and wisps on your face and go for a side part if you’re commited to the whole up do.
Avoid hairstyles that sit on the crown of your head.
Reese Witherspoon always gets it right with her heart-shaped face.

Long or Rectangle Face:

The aim is make your face appear shorter when sporting an up-do. Blunt bangs will work wonders for this but avoid a middle part as this will only make your face appear longer.
This face shape is great for slicked back hair but you can also try fuller hair styles such as pilled up curls or half up half down.
