We know you love everything about awards season so we’ve checked out all the goss from the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards and have a lovely little summary for you to enjoy.
Ricky Gervais Causes a Great Divide
Ricky Gervais played host to the ceremony and it seems his performance has polarized the crowd and the critics. Many major American newspapers and international commentators have said his performance was too nasty and that he had crossed the line with some of his ego-bruising jokes. Others enjoyed the change, sighting Gervais as a breath of fresh air for the sometimes slightly tedious awards show. The Internet is abuzz with defiantly opposite reviews, it reminds us of the Russell Brand MTV hosting incident. Mr Katy Perry certainly recovered from that so we’re sure Ricky Gervais will pull through too.
The Red Carpet
Jake Gyllenhaal arrived with RiloKiley singer Jenny Lewis who happens to be one of his exes. According to sources the stars whirlwind romance with Taylor Swift ended last month so we’re wondering if this surprise choice of guest means Jake and Jenny may be reigniting an old flame. Meanwhile, Glee Star Darren Criss strutted down his very first red carpet, telling press he’d be most star struck if he were to meet his crush Tina Fey!
Sandra Bullock put a halting end to the rumours that she and Ryan Reynolds were an item, telling Today, “He’s just an amazing friend for ten years… but I don’t get his loving after dark.”
Black Swan star Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump on the night in a Victor&Rolf gown. The Golden Globe winner is headed for a huge 2011, with news of her engagement to French dancer Benjamin Millepied, her pregnancy and all the buzz over her incredible performance in Black Swan. She’s an Oscar favourite.
Gleeful Winners
Movies are what spring to mind when we think of the Golden Globes but there were plenty of big winners on the small screen this year. Glee proved cemented its groundbreaking success, taking out three of the top prizes in the TV categories including the Best TV Comedy or Musical prize which the show was also awarded last year. It seems the Glee stars have upped the ante in the style stakes too, particularly Lea Michelle who Kim Kardashian described as ‘so beautiful and talented’ on her twitter during the night.
The After Parties
Held at the Beverly Hilton, the A-list after parties were all about with glamour and gossip. HBO’s guests included Sean Combs, Hayden Panettiere, Zooey Deschanel, Emma Stone, Leighton Meester and many more. Allegedly Miss Meester was busy flirting with her Country Strong co-star Garret Hedlung all night long. The two were practically inseparable all night with some reports saying they even snuck in a kiss! There’s no official word yet but we’ve got our hopes up for the too gorgeous for words couple and think they may just be 2011’s young Hollywood’s IT couple.
Upstairs, at the NBC/Universal/Focus Features party and Sony party were more chilled out affairs for celebs to relax and socialise after the ceremony.
InStyle who played host to celebs such as Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis held the most fashionable party of the night.
The grown up place to be was the Weinstein-Relativity Media event which was attended by some of the biggest stars. Aussie starlet Nicole Kidman was spotted arriving early and leaving early, pulling husband Keith Urban along behind her.
