Joh Bailey on Growing out a Fringe

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Want to grow out your fringe or bangs? No matter how light or heavy, long of short, hair stylist to the stars, Joh Bailey takes us step by step through the process, making it as seamless as possible.

When growing out a fringe it is important to know where you would like to end up. For example if you already have a short blunt fringe and you would like to grow it out to a sweeping side fringe. This helps you know which road to take when growing it out.

Some really good options when growing out a fringe are as follows:

Really thick blunt fringes can begin the growing out process by thinning out and chipping into the middle section of the fringe (eyebrown arch to eyebrow arch) to allow the edges to grow down and form part of your existing layers. This type of fringe is easily grown into a sweeping side fringe or a gorgeous middle part something like Kim Kardashian would wear.

Pinning your fringe back is another great option. You can pin it straight back smooth and straight or into a quiff with height and teasing the choice is yours.

At the moment braids are all the rage on catwalks around the world. And luckily for you they are quick and easy to do and are a fantastic way to put back a fringe that could be down into your eyes. Just create a side part and braid softly to the side along the hairline. And hairspray to keep in place Tres2 hairspray by Tresemme is a light hold hairspray brilliant for a natural look.

You can also create a more edgy look by parting quite low into a side part and gel the fringe to the side along the hairline. Wella highhair Gel is great for this. Then fasten into a ponytail or leave your hair out depending on the look you are going for.

Last but certainly not least are headbands. Headbands are a fun and easy way to hold your fringe back. You can style your hair and add a cute headband to finish. My favourite is a thin black wire headband with maybe a bow on the side.

As your fringe grows out regular very small trims to reshape into a new fabulous fringe!
