One of the most talked about and long standing couples in hollywood, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, have announced their separation. Gwyneth Paltrow has released a statement on her Goop website, stating that she and husband Chris Martin are separating after a decade of marriage.
The actress and the Coldplay frontman married in December 2003, and are parents to two children, Apple (9) and Moses (7).
‘It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,’ she states. ‘We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.’
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin met backstage at a Coldplay gig, and their relationship has been in the spotlight ever since. However, rumours of trouble in paradise have been circulating over the last year.
In a recent interview with Marie Claire, Paltrow opened up about the strain that parenthood has put on their relationship.
‘The problems are getting more serious,’ she said. ‘I notice that they need me more than even when they were very little.’
Chris Martin has also been rumoured to want to move back to his home of England, whilst Paltrow is attached to life in Los Angeles.
Despite their separation, the pair are committed to parenting together, and say that they are on good terms. Paltrow continued,
‘We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.’
