The Met Ball is the celebrity fashion highlight of the year and we’re used to A-listers pulling out their very best in glamorous hair and beauty. What we’re not so used to is seeing spiked up hair, safety pins and torn leather grace the red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of art. But with this year’s theme ‘PUNK: Chaos to couture’ we got something a little different, and way sexier – punked-out hairstyles that turn heads and bring out our inner edgy streak.
Blonde beauty, Jamie King, rocked the punk theme with her deep side part and gold spiked crown. Hair experts Alan Buki and Wayne Lewis from Original & Mineral and Original A share how to recreate Jamie’s punk glam look.
Colour:
Step 1: To achieve a high lift blonde, look at using double ash blonde tint to keep the hair looking clean and light.
Style:
Step 1: When hair is still wet, comb a deep part into one of the sides and lightly spray with a conditioning detangler to hydrate the hair. Rescu. Recommends: Redken Clear Moisture Instant Polishing Prep ($22)
Step 2: Build foundation for this look using styling cream from the mid lengths to ends, then blow-dry straight. Rescu. Recommends: Tresemmé 24 Hour Body Weightless Styling Crème ($6)
Step 3: Spray sea salt spray through the hair once dry to create dry salty texture in the hair. Rescu. Recommends: Spray O&M’s Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray ($24.95)
Step 4: Hold hair in thin sections, about an inch wide and use a straightening iron (preferably one with Ceramic and Tourmaline plates) and iron these sections straight. The straightening combined with the sea salt spray will have hair fall into textured separate sections. Rescu. Recommends: ghd Eclipse heat styler ($300)
Step 5: Once hair is ironed, take a small section from the front of the part and place it behind your ear allowing the hair to fall on top.
Step 6: Finish by adding a crown or hairpiece of your choice slanted over your head to complete this punk glam look.
