It’s that time of year again – Sunday sessions in the sun, parties, swimming in the ocean and laying by the pool are all on the agenda, as you enjoy a much-needed break after a hard year of work. It’s a time that you look forward to but your hair dreads! Over styling, sun, salt and chlorine can take more of a toll then you think on your summer locks.
Rescu. catches up with celebrity hairdresser Dario Cotroneo for his top tips on saving your hair this summer.
Tip 1. If you want your hair to look your best then you have to use the best, so invest in a quality moisture shampoo and conditioner. If possible, try to find a brand with a good combination of moisture and protein, so as to aid the improvement of the hair from the inside out.
Rescu. Recommends: Sebastian Hydra Shampoo and Conditioner.
Perfect for summer this intensive hydrating Shampoo and conditioner supplies moisture for dry and thirsty hair, while providing protection from the elements. Available separately or as part of the Thirst Quencher Pack that includes Sebastian Professional Taming Elixir to smooth hair – best applied prior to styling.
Sebastian Professional Thirst Quencher Pack: Available from selected salons nationally ($68)
Tip 2. Give your hair a holiday this summer! Your hair is dealing with enough heat during the day, so avoid using hot styling tools and sleep with your rollers in overnight. Then just unroll them in the morning for hot beach hair without heat, salt or effort.
Rescu. Recommends: My Curl
An innovative product developed to assist everyday girls in creating luscious natural looking curls, popular with celebs like Rachel Bilson and Whitney Port. Effective with or without your heat tools, this summer we are ditching our curling wand in favour of this little beauty.
My Curl Clutch Pack (6 straps) available from selected salons ($89)
Tip 3. Although summer weather is perfect for hitting the beach, the pool and getting out into the sun, the hot weather can take its toll on your hair. It’s important to take the time to replenish hair with the extra moisture it needs over summer. Use moisturising shampoo, deep conditioners, and treatments to restore your hair back to a more healthy condition.
Rescu. Recommends: Alterna Overnight Hair Rescue
Enriched with caviar extract that helps smooth the hair shaft & increase shine, this treatment is a treat your tired hair will thank you for. Left on while you sleep, it repairs while you dream the night away and is equivalent to six in salon treatments. Works perfectly with CAVIAR Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner.
Alterna Overnight Hair Rescue ($46.80) CAVIAR Moisture Shampoo ($37.95) and CAVIAR Moisture Conditioner ($39.95) available from selected boutiques and salons.
Tip 4. If you’re open to a change, consider a shorter style over summer months. Shorter hair looks very empowering on a woman and summer is the best time to do it!
Rescu. Recommends: Dario Cotroneo Salon in Kings Lane, Darlinghurst.
Famous for his unique dry hair cutting technique, clients are asked to arrive with clean, dry hair so that growth patterns can be evaluated in the hair’s natural state. The method ensures hair is manageable and looks as good between haircuts as it does when you first walk out of the salon.

Tip 5. Minimise the frizziness that often accompanies summer heat and humidity with a lightweight repair spray after you have finished styling to seal the hair cuticle and add shine. Also, rather than spraying hairspray directly onto the hair, spray it onto a makeup brush and glide it over the top of your hair to remove any flyaway strands.
Rescu. Recommends: Hairstay Maximum Hold Spray
Offering a maximum hold for any style, this wonder spray features a UV filter that protects hair form the sun while keeping hair sultry, slick and in place all day and into the night
Available from selected salons ($19.50)
