Rescu. chats with David Babaii
RESCU: So you’ve been in Australia for over a week now, what have you noticed about our hair?
David Babaii: Firstly can I just say how much I love Australia! It’s so pretty and you guys are all so nice.
Well I LOVE how much attention the guys here put into their appearance, I wish American men would put in half the effort, the men here are so put together and trendy and they have that ‘slightly scruffy’ hair trend down pat.
The Aussie women are so hot; you’re all so naturally beautiful! I love how you have that natural, beachy hair that I’m always trying to bring to the US as it represents everything I look for in ‘bohemian and whimsical’ do’s. You don’t take your hair to seriously. Love it.
This was good to know considering I was VERY self-conscious of the fact that my hair was in a dry-shampooed, blonde topknot, messily twirled onto my head.
RESCU: Do you have a hair tip for us Australian girls?
David Babaii: I’ve been walking up to girls on the street and asking them things about their hair – they probably thought I was a weird American stalker – one thing I’ve gathered is that so many of you seem to think that you should only wash your hair once or twice a week. Not true. If you use products like mine without parabens and sulphates, your colour won’t fade and your hair will actually be healthier by washing it daily. It’s an old wife’s tale to barely wash your hair. Not to mention kind of gross.
RESCU: What is the no. 1 hair product you think every girl should own and why?
David Babaii: Bohemian Beach Spray – Everyone can use it and everyone should, it turns limp and lifeless locks into big, sexy hair.
RESCU: What initially made you create the David Babaii for Wildaid collection?
David Babaii: Kate Hudson and I have been working together for years and we wanted to create a hair product line that was affordable and chemical free, which could be used for everyday use. We decided to donate 10% of profits to Wildaid, as it’s a cause we both feel really passionate about.
RESCU: So obviously Kate Hudson is one of your celebrity clients, what other celebs have you on speed dial?
David Babaii: Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Scarlett Johansson, Oprah, and Michelle Obama to name a few.
RESCU: And who is your favourite celeb to work with?
David Babaii: Nicole Kidman. Whoops did I just say that out loud! I just think she is so beautiful and just has the best head of hair.
RESCU: Which celeb would you love to get your hands on? (Hair wise)
David Babaii: Kim Kardashian. To be honest I never used to think she was as amazing as people made her out to be. But last week I met her without makeup and hair just messy and tousled and she’s so naturally beautiful. I’m working with her next week and I can wait to run my fingers through that famous head of hair.
RESCU: Is it real? The hair.
David Babaii: Every last strand isn’t it amazing.
RESCU: Your famous for creating big sexy, curly locks. What do you use?
David Babaii: Bohemian beach spray, different sized curling tongs, a ghd and amplifying spray.
RESCU: Do you have an insider secret?
David Babaii: I spray my volumising spray onto a thickly bristled toothbrush and then brush the roots with it. It gives that amazing ‘big’ look with the messy, bohemian fly-always.
RESCU: What hairstyles, hair colours and hair trends do you see on the horizon?
David Babaii: You will see a lot of bohemian, natural looks. If it’s an updo, always have height, waves and coifs. As for colour, ash toned hair and platinum is soooo over. Think warm, coppery blondes and rich chocolate browns.
David Babaii products are sold exclusively at GNC, leading pharmacies and health food stores including Go Vita, Healthy Life and Mega Health as well as Hair Salons and Beauty outlets. You can also get them on www.adorebeauty.com.au
