The week starting 20th of January 2013 is Australia’s Healthy Weight Week. This nation-wide event was created by the Dietitians Association of Australia with a goal of raising awareness of the importance of achieveing and maintaining a healthy weight, and a healthy lifestyle.
By Chloe Schneider
Rescu. contributor and one of our favourite celebrity chef Luke Mangan is an ambassador for the week so we asked him a few questions about the event and how we can make healthier choices.
Rescu: What’s Healthy Weight Week all about?
Luke Mangan: Healthy Weight Week is an annual campaign raising awareness among young adults on achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Rescu: Can you tell us a little about your involvement with Healthy Weight Week?
Luke Mangan: In support of Healthy Weight Week, our team have created a recipe book of delicious, healthy and simple meals for the home cook. You can find the cookbook here.
Rescu: As a chef, you must be tempted to eat all day long! How do you stay healthy while still enjoying your own cooking?
Luke Mangan: Some days can be a challenge, especially if we are trying new dishes for our menus which involves a lot of taste testing. I always try to have a healthy breakfast and when I’m at home I keep dinner fairly simple, like grilling seafood and meat on the bbq with a nice salad.
Rescu: In your opinion, what’s the biggest myth about weight loss?
Luke Mangan: That all fats are equal, I think it’s important to include good fats in your diet.
Rescu: What’s your best tip for cooking healthy food?
Luke Mangan: Try to use good quality produce where you can and include lots of fresh herbs in your cooking to add flavour and variety to your dishes.
