Hedi Slimane’s changes at Yves Saint Laurent have been backed by the founder’s long-time muse and Roland Mouret has become the Masterpiece London Fair’s official 2012 fashion partner.
Hedi Slimane’s changes at Yves Saint Laurent have been backed by the founder’s long-time muse. Betty Catroux – who worked with the legendary designer for years – thinks new creative director Hedi’s decision to move operations to Los Angeles is a great idea and fully supports all of his decisions including renaming the brand Saint Laurent Paris.
Betty told WWD: “All Hedi’s decisions are brilliant and it is so clever of him to work in Los Angeles – in peace, away from everything, under the sun. “As I don’t live in the past, I have no special recollections of that time except that every day was a fairy tale – but I like today just as much!” The changes also have the backing of Yves Saint Laurent’s former partner Pierre Bergé, who is pleased that previous creative director Stefano Pilati has been replaced.
He said, “I’m very happy. Anything that makes the house more Saint Laurent is welcome. I am happy that Stefano Pilati is gone, just as I was happy when Tom Ford left.” Pierre also backed the move to base YSL’s creative studios in Los Angeles. He said, “The creative studio is in a designer’s head, it resides within the person. Hedi lives in Los Angeles. He should be left to do fashion in a city he likes.”
Roland Mouret has become the Masterpiece London Fair’s official 2012 fashion partner. The French fashion designer will dress the hostesses of the art and antiques fair – which has previously been attended by Britain’s Prince Harry, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Ford and Sir Elton John – in his signature, understated gowns and he is “extremely honoured” to have been appointed in the role.
He said,”I am extremely honoured to be the official fashion partner of Masterpiece London 2012. As an avid collector and admirer of the arts, it is a true pleasure to merge two of my passions – I am thrilled to be providing my signature pieces.” Nicola Winwood, director of the fashion event, is delighted that Roland has become the fair’s official partner because she believes he has one of the most “intuitive understanding of the female form”.
She said, “We are thrilled that Roland Mouret has come on board as official fashion partner for Masterpiece London 2012. Three years ago, at the inaugural fair, we set out with an objective to deliver the very best in art, antiques and design. Roland Mouret’s participation emphasises the importance of fashion within this spectrum, and who better than the man with arguably the most intuitive understanding of the female form to represent the very best fashion has to offer?”
Masterpiece London Fair starts today (28.06.12) and ends next Wednesday (04.07.12) at London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea.
