Christmas is over in Australia and we’re gearing up for some serious shopping but first we’re checking out how Hilary Duff showed off her baby bump for the holiday season.
We also check in with the Royal family to see how Prince Philip is recovering from emergency heart surgery and what Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton got up to over the festive season.
Finally, we check out which big films are taking over our cinemas here in Australia with a wrap-up of the Boxing Day new releases.
Adorable Hilary Duff donned a santa hat and stood in front of her Christmas tree to snap a picture of her baby bump all decorated for the holidays. The actress’ sister Haylie was the master behind the painting of the red and green present with ‘Happy Holidays’ written on the top. Hilary Duff tweeted the pic and said, “Happy holidays from the three of us!! @HaylieK what would I do without you and your artistic ways!”
Haylie also tweeted abut the cute pic, saying, “Evening spent painting my seester @HilaryDuff’s belly and hanging with my brother in law… Can’t wait to meet my nephew. #HurryUp&GetHere”
Hilary has confirmed she is having a boy, telling Ellen Degeneres she had a feeling it was a boy before it was even confirmed.
We can’t help but wonder if Aussie author Kaz Cooke’s pregnancy bible ‘Up the Duff’ was wrapped up under the tree for Hilary Duff! It would have been a very fitting gift indeed!
We were all alarmed to here that Prince Philip, who has been married to Queen Elizabeth for 64 years now, was in hospital recovering from emergency heart surgery.
Thankfully, 90-year-old Philip is recovering quickly and wanted to get out of the hospital and back home to his family. The palace released a statement to the public saying, “Following tests at Papworth Cardiothoracic Hospital in Cambridge this evening the Duke of Edinburgh was found to have a blicked coronary artery which caused his chest pains. This was treated successfully by the minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting. Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a short period.”
Meanwhile, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton joined Queen Elizabeth at church for two services on Christmas morning, drawing a huge crowd to see them. While the Queen, who was doting on her husband, took a short car ride to the church, William and Kate decided to walk with the rest of the royal family, much to the delight of fans who had gathered. This was Kate’s first Christmas with the royal family.
We’re sending well wishes to the entire royal family and hoping for a swift recovery from Prince Philip.
There are two things we look forward to on Boxing Day; the crazy sales and the new release movies. It is the busiest day of the year for the box office and we can see why, the studios always seem to keep their best films for the day after Christmas.
This year, we’re looking forward to two releases from Steven Spielberg; War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin. Along with Tintin, Happy Feet Two covers the animated genre while Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy’s Tower Heist is the comedy release of the season. We Bought a Zoo will be one for romantic comedy lovers. All these flicks are family-friendly choices and we’re sure they’ll draw huge crowds.
For those without kids to entertain, there are plenty of grown-up options for keen movie-goers. Meryl Streep’s ‘The Iron Lady’ has been critically acclaimed, with some saying it is one of Streep’s best performances ever. Pedro Almodovar’s ‘The Skin I Live In’ tells the tale of a plastic surgeon (played by Antonio Banderas) who creates a type of synthetic skin and experiments on a beautiful young woman whom he keeps prisoner. It is expected that in Australia Happy Feet Two will be the most popular of the new releases, with Aussie fans flocking to anything George Miller creates.
Which flick are you looking forward to watching?
