The third season of The Voice has proved to be a hugely popular one for Channel Nine, winning the ratings war again and again as the contestants and teams were revealed, but last night another reality show took the top spot.
The winning show was none other than Seven’s House Rules, which managed to draw in 1.658 million viewers with the unveiling of the Tasmanian renovation and house extension. It’s a pretty major win for the show — last week’s reveal drew in 1.487 million viewers and the week before’s viewership sat in at 1.292 viewers. Even more significantly, it marks a huge comeback for the show which drew just 803,000 viewers when it debuted last year.
Those who tuned in wouldn’t have been disappointed either — the episode was not without its controversy with Tassie’s Brooke and Grant scoring an incredibly low 5 out of 10 for their makeovers by NSW’s Candy and Ryan and QLD’s Maddi and Lloyd. The professional judges on the other hand, scored 9 and 8 respectively for the makeovers, sparking many to suggest the low scoring on Brooke and Grant’s side may have been a strategic move. Given the winner has their mortgage paid off in full, you could hardly blame them if it were!

With this reveal behind us, the leader board looks like this…
- Carole and Russell (Western Australia)
- Maddi and Lloyd (Queensland)
- Bomber and Mel (South Australia)
- Candy and Ryan (NSW)
- Adam and Lisa (Victoria)
- Brooke and Grant (Tasmania)
Clearly, House Rules has captivated the Australian audience — beating out The Voice is no easy feat — and we can’t wait to see who pulls the numbers as the season rolls on.
