Top Winter Beauty Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Dull, lacklustre skin is a common during the winter months. To avoid looking tired or lacklustre this winter, instantly brighten up your face with concealer—it’s the makeup product that can change your life. To make dark circles disappear, begin by choosing a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation. Using a concealer brush, apply concealer under the eye up to the lower lashes and on the innermost corner of the eye, making sure to blend gently using the pads of your fingertips. After that, smooth foundation over your skin to create a flawless, even finish.

Also in winter, it’s easy to overcompensate and become heavy-handed with bronzer. When applied correctly, bronzer is a great way to achieve a natural-looking, healthy glow – without looking too tan or dark. Since the idea of bronzer is to give you a natural look, piling on the powder defeats what you are trying to achieve. The secret is to apply bronzer just on the parts of your face where the sun would naturally hit—predominantly your cheeks, nose and chin. To ensure a seamless look, make sure that you apply the bronzer with a brush that has a big, fluffy head, using a light hand. It is easier to build colour than to fix it. If too much bronzer is applied, wipe away excess with a clean makeup brush.

Sometimes, bronzer alone can appear dull so dust a neutral shade of blush onto the apples of your cheeks for a little pop of colour. This combination of bronzer and blush gives a healthy and fresh complexion. Also, illuminating products are not just for the summer months – and they a fun and easy way to add an extra glow to your complexion all year long. Use a fluffy brush to apply a highlighting/illuminating product—like our Highlighting Powder or Nude Finish Illuminating Powder. Dust above your cheekbone, above the apple of the cheek, as well as along the temples.

Here are a few more of my top winter beauty tips:

1. Moisturisation is the key to healthy looking and feeling skin. It’s a part of my regimen year-round, but it is especially important in the winter when my dry skin gets even drier. I like to layer different skincare formulas, like a hydrating cream under a dense balm to keep my skin looking and feeling completely moisturised.

2. Sun protection should be a part of your skincare regimen even during the cold winter months. Use a moisturiser with SPF 15 protection when you’re running errands or going to work. If you’re going to be outdoors for an extended amount of time, use a waterproof sunscreen of at least SPF 30.

3. To camouflage any redness in skin, use a foundation stick that matches my skin tone exactly. At most, you need two shades – one that matches your skin now, and one that will work in a different season when you’re either lighter or darker. Before going outside, you can also pat a soothing balm onto the apples of cheeks to avoid wind burn.

4. During the colder months it can be tempting to fill up on “comfort foods” that aren’t that healthy. Instead, stick to a well-balanced diet and eat fresh, clean foods like vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains that help skin look radiant. For example, foods rich in Omega 3 oils—like salmon, almonds, walnuts and olive oil—have skin-repairing benefits.       It’s also important to hydrate from the inside out. Stay hydrated by drink plenty of water.

5. Exercise is a skincare essential and the best pick-me-up. It’s important to stay active even when it’s cold outside. It can help prevent the negative effects that aging has on the body and leaves you feeling energised. From my experience, 20-30 minutes a day improves blood circulation and helps give skin a natural, radiant glow.
