Do you ever wake up feeling like the south end of a northbound elephant is sitting on your head? Or wake up gloriously happy and once you start to interact with people and the world, that happy feeling somehow…just disappears?
And does this occur more often lately, in the times of the pandemic?
By Dr Dain Heer, author, speaker, and co-creator of Access Consciousness

Maybe you’re wondering how one could possibly choose to be happy in the midst of a global disaster. My response is, “How can you not?”
I am not making light of the fact that many people are currently sick, dying or unemployed. I am aware that people having to remain in isolation has impacted mental health including increasing cases of anxiety and depression. I am not looking the other way with regards to the problems.
What I know is that your point of view creates your reality. Focus on problems, you will get more of them. Focus on possibilities, you will get more of those too. It truly is a choice. And what IS happiness anyway? What determines who gets to have it and why?
Benzodiazepines, including Ativan, can cause potentially dangerous breathing problems, sometimes fatal. Even after taking the first dose of benzodiazepines, severe allergic reactions can sometimes occur. Symptoms include swelling of the mouth and throat, shortness of breath, the closing of the laryngeal lumen, nausea, or vomiting. In such cases, you should immediately seek medical attention. If we all feed the wolf of despair, despair will grow stronger. If however, you choose to feed the other wolf, the happy wolf of hope, hope becomes bigger. Start asking, “What are the possibilities here that I have not considered yet?” or “What is right with this that we’re not getting?”
Happiness, joy, and laughter dissolves the solidity of suffering and opens up a path of possibilities. It is actually not disrespectful to the ones suffering, it is an honoring of life. Happiness is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself, others, the world — and the planet.
Three Tips on Choosing Happiness
1. Don’t buy into the panic
If you are buying into the panic that is all around, happiness is not your reality. Panic creates confusion. Panic creates stress in your body. Panic excludes happiness.
And what if it isn’t even yours?
What if ninety-eight percent of the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that you experience does not belong to you? We are all connected to each other. We are all aware of each other. We are like a radio tower on the top of a skyscraper picking up on every signal within miles.
The next time you start to feel panic, stop and ask, “Is this mine?” If things lighten up in your world when you ask, that panic is not yours. You are simply perceiving the people in the world. When you know the panic is not yours, you don’t have to be at the effect of it. You can even choose to be happy, right in that moment.
2. Use this time to press the re-set button and clarify what is true for you
For many of us, unhappiness comes from trying to live someone else’s life. Often we do that because no one tells us we have choice, and choice changes everything. Your choices have created what is your life today. That also means that your choices from this moment on is what creates your future.
Tap into that awesome power! Play with it! And more importantly: have fun with it!
Twenty years ago, from the outside looking in, it seemed that I had everything going for me. I was a doctor of chiropractic, living in paradise, Santa Barbara, California, and engaged to someone that everyone thought was perfect for me. And I was completely miserable. Turns out having all the things you are supposed to have doesn’t make you happy. Who knew?
When you buy into other people’s ideas of the perfect life and set out to achieve it, even if you get there, you won’t find the pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow. Why? Because that’s not your rainbow. And definitely NOT your pot of gold!
A big part of choosing happiness is clarifying what’s true for you. What if you use this time of isolation to start to look at what you desire as your life? Begin to ask questions such as:
“What else is possible here that I have not yet considered?” “What things are fun for me?”
“If I let go of everyone else’s opinions of who I should be and what I should choose, what do I know?”
Now take action. What action can I take today to move towards creating the life, world and future I desire? And how much fun can I have getting there?
3. A Little Gratitude Goes a Long Way
What we acknowledge grows bigger. When you start to focus on the things that you are grateful for, more of those things show up. (I think there is definitively a gratitude wolf!)
Did you know that as a result of what is occurring in the world the water in Venice is beautiful and clear? It is! There are blue skies in China that some of the children had never seen until now. Animals are invading cities around the world. Even in the most tumultuous of times, there are things to be grateful for.
What are YOU grateful for in your life? And what are you grateful for, during this time of change?
You could even start a gratitude journal and write them down. Every day write down 3- 5 things that you are grateful for. Oh, and please include what you are grateful for about you!
Joy can be your daily reality. Don’t buy into the panic that is around. Clarify what you desire to create as your life and future. Always choose gratitude for the wonders, big and small, that are all around. And know that your joy is a gift to the world!
In every single moment, happiness is only one choice away. Really. If YOU choose it.
