How to create a fresh, natural red carpet look!

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Red carpet events always seem like another world! So glamorous with flowing gowns, VIP’s everywhere and some looks we would prefer not to remember!

Make-up is sometimes seen as needing to be ‘made up’ or an ‘evening’ look… But, the truth is, a Red Carpet make-up can be as natural as you like, as long as your dress, hair and the entire concept of your look is balanced, just like on a Saturday night or going to an event like us regular Joes!

Take this fabulous pic of Diane Kruger, shot at the Toronto International Film Festival. She looks flawlessly natural and very fresh, a look that could be worn day or night!

Her dress looks sophisticated, hair up which shows the face elegantly, so a dramatic, very intense make-up could be very overpowering – I think every woman has gone a little OTT once or twice in her life!

First step to creating such a fresh face is the prep! Hydration, hydration, hydration and I don’t just mean drinking water. A good hydrating moisture mask can be great when going to a special event as it infuses water into the skin instantly and on a more concentrated level than that of your daily moisturizer.

The night before is a great time to apply one of these generously, (leaving it absorb into your skin overnight), But, I am known to apply a light layer of a mask when a client first sits in my makeup chair when attending an event for instant freshness.

Try… Sisley Paris Eye Contour Mask and Express Flower Gel

Now that the skin is plump, smooth and hydrated, your foundation should melt into the ski beautifully, creating a strong fusion between product and face -remember, they should always be one.

Try mixing a liquid illuminator into your foundation, mixing together with your foundation brush and then applying. This dilutes foundation slightly for easier blend, but more importantly gives light and sheen to the skin, just like Diane’s look, Devine!

MB TIP – Choose a shade that will not change your correct foundation too much! Too gold could deepen the shade and to light could lighten skin. A pearl sheen is a great neutral shade.

I am a big fan of the Kruger’s bronzed lids – great for her blue eyes creating contrast. This doesn’t need a hundred different eye shadows to create, but in fact your trusty bronzer is great for this look as a base shade.

Once you sweep your bronzer from your sideburn/hairline area down towards the corner of your lip, which lifts cheekbone and sculpts, gently use excess as a wash over your mobile eyelid, working into socket area.

This gives the perfect base, creating a bronze depth in shape and ties in with your cheek contour.

Once contour is created on the eye with your bronzer, add a gold shade eye shadow as a pop of colour in centre of the eye and towards your tear duct to brighten.

MB Tip – Always dab these ‘pop’ colours with a brush rather than a sweeping application. The sweeping movements can often flick pigments to under area causing fall out.

Last finishing touches are a very volume style mascara to create depth, elegance and contrast from gold shade. Always start mascara wand at very base of lashes, slowly curving your wrist as you stroke through lashes creating amazing length and volume which should be created through the mascara wand chosen.

Try… Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara

Now add a slight tinted lip balm or sheer style lipstick in a nude/peach tone s well as a slight blonde/taupe flick of colour through gaps in the brows, combed of course and you will look elegant, fresh, with beautiful sheen through your skin!

A beautiful look, with minimal products – perfect woman’s best friend!
