How To Dress A Pear Shape

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Perfectly pear shaped ladies, listen up! If you’re tiny on top and curvier down below, we show you how to make the most of what your mama gave you! Clue-up on how to dress a pear shape…

Am I a pear shape? If you’ve got narrow shoulders and a smaller bust, ‘peared’ with a bigger booty and wider hips and thighs – you’re a pear shape, like Katie Holmes – your celebrity pear-shaped body muse. Upon closer inspection, Katie’s lower half is wider than her top half – she’s just clued-up on how to balance out her body, and now, you will have the know-how too. Here’s what you need to know about dressing a pear shape body.

Balance out pear shaped bodies: The best tip on how to dress a pear shape, is to balance your bod. Your tiny torso means you can get away with volume up top. Think pretty prints, embellished necklines, and statement necklaces. This will draw the focus upward, to your face. Keep your bottom half simple and structured, steering clear of waist pleats, gathering and lace embellishments.

Don’t waste that tiny waist: Make the most of that svelte waistline by choosing garments that taper in at the waist– A-line shaped, and trapeze shaped dresses are great as they cinch in at the waist and skim over wider hips and thighs. Or as a rule, the quickest way to instantly highlight that waist is to belt it, baby!

Elongate those legs: Wearing darker colours down below is always the way to go for pear shaped bodies. Reserve busy prints and neon brights for up above, it will help make you look leaner on your lower half. Think: dark straight leg jeans that skim over the hips or, if you must wear skinny jeans, match them with A-line tunics to avoid the ‘chicken drum-stick leg’ effect.

Get friendly with your tailor: A great tailor can help you alter your garments to flatter your pear shaped figure to pear-fection! That way, if you love the garment, but it’s a little snug on the hips or too loose up top, your tailor can help it fit like a glove.
