While it’s obvious we all love checking out the fashion, the models and the make-up at New York Fashion Week, every now and then a hairstyle grabs our attention on the runway and we can’t wait to test it out for ourselves.
We’ve picked three favourite styles straight from the New York runway to give you some new ideas for the coming party season.
Carolina Herrera
Stylist Orlando Pita produced unique, intricate looks inspired by Korean design to complement the colours, prints and floral appliqués from the collection.
Pita said of the look, “When Korean women dress, nothing is out of place and everything is beautifully thought out. My hairstyle is precise and graphic, with no loose or separate pieces.”
How to get the look:
– First Moroccanoil light was applied throughout dry hair for frizz-free shine and smooth ends
– Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream was used from mid-lengths to the ends and blow dried straight using a round brush.
– A deep side part was created and hair was pulled back and held in place with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.
– A wide tooth comb was used to pull the hair diagonally
– Next, hair was pinned to the nape of the neck with clusters of custom made ‘Hair-Barrettes’ that matched the colour of the models’ hair. These were pinned horizontally or vertically to create dramatic graphic patterns in the hair
Erin Fetherston
“I wanted to create an exotic look that had the mood of a woman on a tropical holiday ready to explore something new after a morning on the beach,” hairstylist Odile Gilbert said. Channelling the celebration of wanderlust that was Erin Fetherston’s S/S 11 collection.
Gilbert was right on mark with her exotic ideas. She go
es on, “Her hair looks natural, healthy, straight and clean – but I’ve given it a bit of subtle drama with the texture only on the top of the head and back from the face, the rest of the strands fall free. The texture was inspired by markings on tropical leaves. It’s relaxed and sophisticated…”
How to get the look:
– To achieve a healthy sheen, Moroccanoil treatment was applied from the roots to the tips and then blow dried straight.
– Lightly moistening the tip of the hair and applying Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling cream whilst separating the hair with fingers created a deep side part.
– To set the look, Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray was sprayed while strands were separated with a comb.
– The shaped tex
ture was created by blow-drying and misting more hairspray for hold.
– The rest of the hair was brushed, letting itfall naturally and then tucked behind the ears.
Badgley Mischka
Badgley Mischka’s show was inspired by the woman of mystique who projects a proper exterior while steamy sensuality lies beneath the surface. Hair director Peter Gray was inspired by the 70s in a look that perfectly counterpointed the slim, narrow silhouettes of the collection.
Gray said, “The curls are tight and combed through into a wave at the front, looser at the crown with progressively smaller curls as they reach the back of the head. They’re designed to tease the eye and keep it moving, almost in the same way as when the fabrics flow and fall as the models walk.”
How to get the look:
– Gray used different sized curling irons to create texture and volume. Smaller curls were created at the base of the look while larger curls were used for the wavier curls at the crown and around the face.
– Small square sections of hair were taken at the nape of the neck to create volume enhancing tight base curls.
– Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream was applied to each section and a light spritz of hairspray as sections were wrapped around the curling iron.
– The side-part was created by taking small horizontal sections and working back with the curling iron. Gray started at the hairline to make the waves in the hair which were then held in place by lightweight clips.
– Finally, a misting of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray was applied all over to hold the hair in place yet keep it flexible, natural-looking and full of movement.
