How to Make Money Blogging: Mrs Woog explains

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

We’ve asked Mrs Woog of the hilarious Woogsworld the same questions to get her insights on the wonderful world of blogging.

By Chloe Schneider

Mrs Woog started out blogging because she had plenty to say, loved to write, and wanted an outlet for communication. She tells stories about her own life that are filled with the type of dry humour we can’t get enough of. She’s sarcastic, clever, witty, authentic and a whole lot of fun. It’s easy to accidentally while away a good few hours reading about Mrs Woogs’ adventures and you’ll come away feeling a bit brighter for it.

Here’s what the fantastic Mrs Woog had to say about the business of blogging…

RESCU: We’ve all heard about sponsored posts and banner ads, what are some of the lesser known ways bloggers make money?
Mrs Woogs:
Develop yourself and your skills to the point that you can offer your services as a freelance writer. There are thousands about, so you have to really be good to be heard through the crowd.
There are many online establishments that are desperate for content, so contact those who you think are a good fit, and offer them a sample article or post on a topic that you are knowledgeable or passionate about.
If you are quite knowledgeable about social media as a whole, there are also companies who are desperate to understand more about it. Just because you have a blog and a twitter account does not make you a “Social Media Consultant” but if you dig a little deeper, you might be surprised to find that you actually know a lot more about it than you thought you did.

RESCU: There are so many blogs out there these days – in your opinion what makes some so much more successful than others?
Mrs Woogs:
Blogs that I visit regularly give me something in return. This can range from just a really good yarn, through to expert information that I need. Those who post regularly are at an advantage, as well as those who write originally. Bloggers who are authentic in what they do will always get a big tick from me.

RESCU: Some people seem to think bloggers spend their days writing posts, doing freebie inventory, and attending events. What are some of the lesser known, and less fabulous, parts of the job that newbies should be aware of?
Mrs Woogs:
It all depends what you want to get out of blogging. A big part of it for me is the community that I have built, who are completely sensational! Like anything the more you put in, the more you get out of it.
But it can be lonely and frustrating, particularly if you are going through the uninspired blahs, you need to balance your online life with your real life, and your real life should always take priority.
Blogging can be all-consuming if you let it. As your readership grows, you will get readers who do not like what you are doing. It is hard to take criticism, well for me anyway, but you need to expect it as your site gains momentum.
Have a policy in place and remember, most of the time the person who is nasty is the one with the issue. Not you.
Also get out and walk a bit, or you will get a fat ass.

RESCU: If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice when you were just starting out, what would it be?
Mrs Woogs:
Walk more so your ass does not get as fat as it is going to get…..
One piece of advice I can give to any newbie blogger is that there is room for you! JUMP IN. Don’t think about it so much. It takes a lot of time and persistence. Do it because you love it and the rest will fall into place.
The more you write the better you get, so get writing!
