‘Glamour’ + ‘exercise’? Not generally a match made in style heaven, particularly when we’re discussing sub-zero temperatures. If you’re looking forward to a white Christmas, fear not – there’s plenty of off-piste into on-trend pieces to choose from. Read on for our guide to snow-smart dressing.
1. DO MORE WITH LESS
If the heart rate is up and the skis are coming off, so is an item of clothing or two. Navigating mountain to après-ski without a red-faced transition is down to breathable layers that allow ease between peeling off and packing on, so eschew bulky, heavy pieces for multiple lightweights in clever fabrications. Uniqlo’s heat-tech range is perfect for locking in warmth without heading into Michelin Man territory, or Nike’s sweat-wicking and hyper-warm technology keeps the perspiration patches at bay while you’re enjoying an aperitif or two post-run.

Uniqlo Heattech turtleneck top, $29.90, uniqlo.com.
2. WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Forget drenching your suede boots or slip-and-sliding in your trainers – you need a heavy sole to keep you on track. Moon boots aside, there’s plenty of practical options that still err on the side of fashion over function. The devil is in the details, as always – lace-ups, shearling linings and a mid-height sole shift from on-snow to off with zero fuss.

Isabel Marant Nowles ankle boots, $546, mytheresa.com.
3. HELMET HAIR 101
Like most action sports, when it comes to safety a helmet is a no-brainer. Any woman worth her blow-out knows a slicked down set of roots is inevitable – if your only option is to blast your hair under a hand-dryer, best to keep a thick headband, beanie or beret folded up in your backpack or jacket to keep it under wraps.

4. PLAY WITH TEXTURES
A fur-trimmed jacket might come across a little OTT strolling the streets of Bondi (but hey, if that’s your vibe – you do you), so this is where situational dressing comes into play. Bust out the fuzzy accoutrements (faux, of course) where you can – it adds instant glam to an otherwise sports-focused look. Jackie O sunglasses optional.
Topshop hooded faux-fur trim coat, approx. $115.11, topshop.com.

J.O.A camel coat with shearling, $223.79, shopbop.com.
5. ABOVE AND BEYOND OUTERWEAR
The golden ticket of ski wear? A jacket that serves you both on mountain and off –not only will it save you precious packing space, but it makes sauntering into an alpine bar post-run a breeze (no costume change at the chalet required). Look for details that translate into evening – metallic jackets are making a comeback, as are logo decals and mixed-media textures.

6. ANKLE-GRAZERS ONLY
If you’re headed out and about, leave your floor-skimming trousers at home – unless you’re looking to bring a little snow back with you. Opt for ankle-grazing denim, stirrup trousers (which are having a little moment thanks to Balenciaga) or a tapered track pant, ideally with an elastic cuff you can tuck into a boot.
