New research by Teva Pharma Australia Pty Ltd has found 63% of women in Australia uses oral contraception to mange their menstrual cycle, and 1 in 5 of these women chooses to skip their periods for several months at a time.

It has also been found that 21% of women in surveyed in Australia say that they would like a new method of contraception that is specifically designed to skip periods rather than deliberately skipping their periods (also known as DIY cycling).
Dr Ginni Mansberg, GP, advises that, “You can only skip periods safely with pills that contain the same level of hormones throughout the course, in particular where these pills are designed for this purpose.”
“It’s important for women to seek advice from their GP and discuss a contraceptive that suits their situation, their symptoms and their body, particularly if they find themselves choosing to manipulate their cycle most months.”
