What has been happening in the fashion industry around the world this week? A whole lot! From the parties to insider news within Vogue, we have it all.
New York shines the light on talented Australian’s
Many young Australian’s are itching to get work experience in one of the fashion capitals of the world- New York. That’s why The Australian’s In New York Fashion Foundation was established- to see these budding fashion lovers make it in the big apple. The AINYFF held their annual party this week to help raise awareness for the cause, and a number of talented celebrities came together to celebrate. As American model Karlie Kloss noted “I have never met an Australian I didn’t like”, the party included an honorary committee including Isabel Lucas, Naomi Watts, Abbie Cornish and Abbey Lee Kershaw (amongst many more!)
The party was held in trendy Soho, and saw all proceeds go to the Global Poverty Project.
Vogue Russia welcomes a new Editor In Chief
There has been some huge movement with Vogue Russia the last few weeks with the Editor In Chief Aliona Doletskaya resigning. Thankfully for the leading magazine, the very talented Victoria Davydova will take over. Having come from an editor position about Russian magazine Tatler, Victoria has helped establish two magazines within Conde Nast, and her role at Vogue Russia is effective immediately.
Luxury designers embrace plus size clothing
The times are changing, and for the better! The famous US retailer Saks 5th Avenue is encouraging their high end designers to provide plus size clothing for the retail giant. In a statement about the need to fulfil plus size women’s needs, Saks 5th Avenue explained “to meet her needs, Saks 5th Avenue has worked with certain well-known designers and for Fall 2010 we will offer some designer brands up to size 16 or 18 in select Saks Fifth Avenue locations.”
The designers who are rumoured to be embracing this welcomed change, include Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, YSL, Fendi, Alexander McQueen and Roberto Cavalli.
Stella McCartney and Jimmy Choo find unlikely company in new designer collaborations
There is nothing we like better than seeing two talented brands come together in a designer collaboration. This week, Stella McCartney and British artist Barry Reigate have come together to design McCartneys fall ad campaign. Reigate added his signature touch of illustrations to the otherwise high end ad campaign, adding a touch of playfulness and cheekiness to the brands image.
In other news, high end shoe label Jimmy Choo, has come together with UGG for a capsule collection of 5 co-branded shoe designs. The designs won’t hit stores until October 21st, and Chief Creative Officer of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon has stated that the brand has put “the DNA of Jimmy Choo into an UGG boot. No matter who you are, what your income, everyone has a pair of Uggs.” We can’t possibly guess what they may look like, so let’s wait and see!
