Last weekend the doors at the Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre flung open to let hundreds of make-up enthusiasts run wild. In its third year in Australia, the public friendly trade show welcomed a record-breaking crowd of 3,000 people, including over 80 of Australia’s top beauty bloggers.
The show, already well known amongst the inner circles of make-up artists, exhibited even bigger brands than previously. This year show organisers, Make-Up Artist Magazine, secured the likes of M.A.C. Cosmetics, Illamasqua, Inglot and Napoleon Perdis for the first time in Australia. The crowds were beyond excited to make good of the exclusive discounts and offers, with some stands having over an hour wait-time to process purchases.
Make-up education is prominent at IMATS with internationally renowned make-up artists and entertainment industry leaders gracing the show stage to share their wisdom, techniques, key trends and new product launches.
Saturday attendees saw famed US beauty blogger Elessa Jade from pursebuzz.com share her tips on getting ‘nude’, Nicole Thompson from M.A.C Cosmetics presented body art at its most extreme, and RESCU’s very own Napoleon Perdis closed the day with his inspirational key note.
On Sunday, attendees were treated to Oscar winning make-up artist, Tami Lane, who is currently working as the prosthetics organizer on Peter Jacksons’ newest blockbuster, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the afternoon, Donna Mee, an editorial make-up artist veteran of 20 years, took the stage to share her tips on mastering eye make-up, followed by the ever-amusing Student Competition Show for Character and Prosthetics. Finally, it all came to an end with leading Australian make-up artist, Rae Morris, revealing pro techniques to master the elusive smoky eye.
