Beyoncé’s new album Lemonade, released last week, has sparked conversation amongst fans around her songs being about infidelity and cheating.
The release of her 6th album, including 11 new songs, has the world talking about the meaning behind the surely soon-to-be bestseller. The album was released during her HBO special on April 23rd, an accompaniment to the songs being presented in a music video stream formation.

The themes of the video include those of anger, accountability and loss, which have stirred the question of infidelity and cheating in her relationship with Jay Z. The video starts with Beyoncé’s lyric “You can taste the dishonesty, it’s all over your breath.”
Beyoncé’s father cheated on her mother, Tina Knowles, and therefore could also be a reflection of her parent’s relationship through her eyes, years later.
The entirety of the album uses references of mistrust and infidelity, but in an empowering way. The artist expresses these emotions through anger, rather than sorrow or sadness. From titles including “Pray You Catch Me” to “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, her approach is empowering to women, exhibiting the ability to gain strength and control from being in an unfaithful relationship.
