With the second season of Puberty Blues set to hit our screens soon and Australia Day invigorating our patriotic spirit, we’re pressing play on reruns of the first season of the TV version of the Kathy Lette classic and have been once again blown away by Isabelle Cornish’s performance.
Over the past year, Isabelle has gained an enormous Instagram following of over 112,000 international and local fans — the modern indicator major star power. Of her following, Isabelle told GQ magazine last year, “Yeah that came about pretty quickly — it was crazy. It doesn’t change anything for me though. I still just post photos I like.”
Between this huge fan base and her role in the highly-anticipated second season of Puberty Blues , this 19-year-old is one homegrown star we’ have no doubt is set for international stardom.
With all this in mind, we thought what better way to celebrate Australia Day than flash back to our exclusive interview with the gorgeous Isabelle to chat beauty secrets, her bond with sister Abbie, her childhood growing up on a farm in NSW’s Hunter Valley, and future plans. RESCU: Hi, welcome to RESCUTV. I have an amazing guest with us. The talented and beautiful Isabelle Cornish. Happy New Year.
Isabelle Cornish: Thank you.
RESCU: Here we are in Sydney. You’ve had an enormous 2012. What’s on the horizon?
Isabelle Cornish: What I have on the horizon at the moment is I’m doing Puberty Blues, season two then I am hoping to move overseas. I joined with the UTA which the U.S. Time Agency.
RESCU: I know. We read about that. That’s amazing. Not surprising, but fantastic.
Isabelle Cornish: So, after Puberty Blues, I hope to move overseas and start auditioning and really being over in America.
RESCU: Now, one of the things that’s really special about you is that you seem to be an artist of many, many talents. Tell us about some of the other things you do other than acting?
Isabelle Cornish: I do a lot of modelling, which I’m with Shake in Sydney. I like to do photography.
RESCU: You did something when you were younger too, right?
Isabelle Cornish: Yeah, I did. I did catwalk modelling when I was about five and six. I really enjoyed photography, film photography and digital photography. My mum’s an artist, so I like to draw and paint and make jewellery, a little bit of everything actually.
RESCU: So, when you move to the States, I assume you’ll move to L.A.?
Isabelle Cornish: Yes.
RESCU: Will you be living with your sister?
Isabelle Cornish: Yes, that’s what the plan is. Yeah.
RESCU: So, what happens in a family with two incredible superstars? Tell us a little bit about when you were growing up, what the environment was like to produce Abbie Cornish and Isabelle Cornish.
Isabelle Cornish: I don’t know. We grew up on a farm in the Hunter Valley with my dad and then when I was about six, I moved to Newcastle with my mum and one of my brothers and my sister took off overseas.
RESCU: There’s an age difference.
Isabelle Cornish: Yeah, there is. There’s 12 years actually.
RESCU: Between you.
Isabelle Cornish: So, we had like, grew up in a big family. There’s five kids. So, we grew up on a farm. We like property and nature and my brothers play music and stuff like that, so.
RESCU: Now, I understand you’re a vegan as well?
Isabelle Cornish: Yes.
RESCU: So, is Abbie as well?
Isabelle Cornish: Abbie’s a vegetarian. She’s been a vegetarian since she was about 13 and I have been, but I went vegetarian when I was 14. Then I went vegan about a year and a half ago.
RESCU: I read somewhere that you are planning to do some collaboration with your big sister. Tell us more about that.
Isabelle Cornish: That’s like a little bit of fun that I’m planning in the future. Yeah, I want to make my own TV show and I’m looking for ideas and inspiration, but I really want to do something later on. Maybe like collaborate our own TV show together or to do a documentary show and present together or something like that.
RESCU: Can you share some of your beautiful beauty secrets that you’ve learned on the job? Do you normally do you own hair and makeup when you do auditions or if you’re going to a shoot?
Isabelle Cornish: Yeah, actually I do my own hair and makeup for all my auditions and when I send them over to America, I do. Most day to day, I’m pretty minimal. I like that because then when I go to photo shoots and I get my hair and makeup done really glamorous, I feel special. Then on a normal day, I’m more casual. Just like, minimal makeup and natural hair.
RESCU: Now, your hair is a really big part of your look and you’ve changed the colour a lot and you changed the style.
Isabelle Cornish: Yeah.
RESCU: Tell us a little bit about how you look after your hair and how you like to style your hair and your favourite colour.
Isabelle Cornish: I really, really enjoy the colour my hair is at the moment. Normally for the last two years, I’ve had really dark hair.
RESCU: Yeah.
Isabelle Cornish: So, I liked it. Most of the time I like my hair out. I don’t often wear it back and like a natural beachy way because it’s got like a really texturised feel to it, so I just normally go with that and just wear it out. Just let it do its own thing.
RESCU: You look gorgeous and you look you know, with this colour hair, you look very, very similar to your sister. Tell me, what is some fantastic tip she’s given you in your climb to stardom in Hollywood, because it’s going to be whirlwind? You’ve already got your foot in the door. You’ve had some successful auditions and you’ve got some very close to some huge movies.
Isabelle Cornish: Yeah. I think that having a sister like Abbie is really helpful because we’re so close. I know that if there’s anything I need, I can always call her up and that she’s been through everything that I’m about to go through and experience, so its so good to know that I have someone there if I ever get stuck or that can give me guidance whenever I need it.
RESCU: You are so articulate and just gentle and beautiful and confident.
Isabelle Cornish: Thank you.
RESCU: I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to be one of those interviews. I’m going to say, yes. I got her before she was you know, an Oscar winner.
Isabelle Cornish: How nice.
