Pinch and a punch, its National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
The statistics for Breast Cancer are alarming, with one in every eight women being diagnosed in their lifetime.
This year alone 15, 600 women are predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia, and by 2020 a projection of 17, 210 women will be diagnosed. This is an average of 47 women being diagnosed every single day.
October is a special month, focused on bringing light to the topic of breast cancer and in doing so, raising awareness globally. With the goal of educating, encouraging and supporting women to get checked and to understand the health ricks and precautions, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about bringing women together and fighting the disease as one.
To kick-start the month, last night Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette –the leading stars in the new breast cancer awareness movie Miss You Already – lit up the State Theatre in Sydney showcasing their new flick and to raise awareness for the cause.
The movie sees Collette and Barrymore play best friends since childhood, with their lives forever changed when one of the women is diagnosed with breast cancer.
In just the same way that Breast Cancer Awareness Month focuses on the upside, exerting positive energy into raising awareness, Miss You Already is an uplifting and positive film, depicting the power of friendship, love and hardship.
“It was one of the best jobs of my entire life and the fact that if affects so many people is such a wonderful thing” said Collette. Barrymore also commented saying “I definitely think I wanted to be part of this story as something for my daughters in the future”
This October, Breast Awareness Month is bigger than ever, and the ways to become involved, educated or to support the cause are endless.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is embarking on a unique road trip to raise funds for life-changing breast cancer research.
