Jean Paul Gaultier, the man responsible for influencing and reshaping the fashion landscape since the 1980s, is the latest designer to release a collection for retail giant Target.
Sadly available in the US only the collection will be available from March 7 2010.
The Jean Paul Gaultier for Target collection is the newest addition to Target’s new initiative Designer Collaborations, with previous designers Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui releasing lines in the past.
Designer Collaborations is a series of reasonably priced designer collections, which challenge high-end fashion designers to create entire collections based on one particular muse or creative element. Gaultier’s inspiration? The American woman- “Celebrating the forces of style both past and present in American pop culture”.
Trish Adams, “Target is honored to partner with such a renowned designer, and to bring Gaultier’s craftsmanship and creativity to women across the country, at a great value.” Jean Paul Gaultier for Target features a collection of spring sportswear staples combined with Gaultier’s signature French ‘tout of wit and charm’. Think lazer-cut embroidery, flirty silhouettes mixed with classic shapes, intricate detailing and bold pops of colour.
The collection includes high-waisted shorts and pants, mini skirts, swimwear, strong-shoulder jackets, and cropped tanks all of which range in price from $17.99 to $199.99.
“My collection with Target pays homage to the wide range of personalities that make up the diverse styles of American women,” says Gaultier. “From ingénue to rock ‘n roll, this collection celebrates women of all ages and a host of distinctive, iconic American styles.”
Jean Paul Gaultier has long been called the ‘enfant terrible’ of the
fashion world, for his bold and daring couture collections, as well as costumes for music and movie superstars worldwide. One of his most definitive moments in pop culture history were the costumes’ he designed for Madonna’s Blonde Ambition World Tour in 1990.
