I feel that the best way to create a tanned summer glow without it looking too fake is to do it in layers.
To avoid getting patchy, make sure you exfoliate your body first, to get the skin surface evenly textured to ensure that the developing tan grabs evenly.
When tanning my clients, I use ModelCo Tan in a Can. You don’t have to touch the skin at all to blend and it contains an instant bronzer that shows you where you have applied the colour therefore you can be sure that it’s even. In preparation for an event, I would do the first application 2 nights before and repeat the night before the event.
Then on the evening of the event, mix together a half Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, one quarter a liquid foundation a few shades darker than your natural base, and one quarter a bronzing cream. Apply this to all the visible areas like the arms, legs and décolletage. Allow all the moisturising component of the cocoa butter to completely soak in to the skin and you will be left with the fine layer of bronzer, which should not move too much.
And the final step for your lustrous look, which will add the final glow and set the make-up on your skin, is the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick for body – lightly dust it on any areas of exposed skin with a really big, fluffy brush.
For the face, I also like Dior Bronze.
Why so many layers?
The idea behind doing so many layers is that, by the law of averages, you are bound to get a more natural result and you are very unlikely to miss the same spot or over apply to the same spot twice.
