As proven during the Spring/Summer runways, every occasion calls for a new look. Floating, layered dresses became ethereal due to the models’ long, loose hair at Chloé. While, Bacall-esque coiffed hair was the perfect compliment to Dior’s 1940s-style fashion (as pictured left). Inspired, and impressed, by the international catwalk, we questioned Joh Bailey, celebrity hair and grooming expert, on which hairstyles work best with special occasions outside the runway.
1. RESCU: Which hairstyles do you think compliment a Black Tie event?
Joh Bailey: “A huge bouncy blowdry, as seen on Sarah Jessica Parker. Or a textured messy Chignon [bun], which Cameron Diaz and Uma Thurman usually wear well”.
Joh shows us how to create these looks:
To blow-dry the hair professionally: Using a strong hot blow-dryer and a radial bristle brush, dry the hair roots to ends.
To put the hair up into the Chignon, do the same blow-dry as above. Put the hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck. Twist the pony into a messy loose bun and secure with hair pins. Then add some spray for extra hold.

2. RESCU: What about the perfect do for a Dressy Dinner?
Joh Bailey: “A sleek straight blowdry or ponytail. Both Jennifer Hawkins and Demi Moore work this look well.”
Joh’s advice on perfecting these sleek styles:
Blow-dry the hair, roots to ends with a medium radial brush and a hot blow-dryer. Finish off with a straightening iron for a sleek finish.
For the Ponytail, pull hair tightly back and secure with an elastic. Then spray with product.
3. RESCU: What’s the ultimate style for Meeting Friends At a Bar?
Joh Bailey: “Tussled sexy loose, messy curls, as seen on Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé.”
Joh’s tips for achieving this sexy look:
Dry your hair off with a hairdryer, tipping your head upside down. Throw your hair back. Use a straightening iron to create loose curls by taking sections of hair and twisting it with the straightener.
