Music and fashion don’t always go together but the Grammy Awards are a great op for the industry to strut their stuff. Some shine bright like diamonds, while others are a little less radiant. My best and worst dressed is a mash-up of what was haute, and what was, well, not…
Best:
Kimbra – wearing Aussie designer Jaime Lee and proudly! Baubles, beads and pearls with a wisp of tulle all add up to one stunning frock- perfect for the awards (and acceptance speeches!).
Florence Welch – Puff the Magic Dragon never looked so good in Givenchy. Jewelled Jade = jealous…
Rihanna – Wow. Rihanna never fails to surprise me and this Alaia is certainly no exception- I love the sheer sexiness of it and it seems Ri-Ri has matched her new do with her train- BOTH go on for miles!
Kelly Rowland – This could have gone so wrong but Kelly has dared to bare in all the right places, teamed with a swept ‘do and this is classic Grammy’s for the A-Lister. The right balance between daring and couture.
Beyonce – No, this isn’t a gown. And that’s a good thing. B knows how to upstage lesser poppets by doing the unexpected. This is so chic and not the glitzed up Sasha Fierce we were imagining.
Worst:
Well, it’s the Grammy’s so there is more than enough to choose from! I have tried my hardest to narrow it down…
LMFAO (Stefan Kendal Gordy) – Yeah I get the Sideshow Bob hair and the rocker knicker-bockers but those lenseless glasses and bling embellishments make me wanna LMFAO too…
John Mayer – John, I have one word for you in that Willy Wonker jkt- it sounds like Wonker.
Janelle Monae – Nice idea to stand out from the crowd, if you like the Mexican Bullfighting Butler look…
J-Lo – Once again Jinny from the Block has gone over the top. Didn’t you take notes from Angelina, Jennifer? THAT split is ridiculous for the sake of it- it actually makes me a little angry! Such a great body and budget! She has wasted both…
Kat Von D – This 10 Crosby Derek Lam needs a belt and needs a different venue/event- just ask Kristen Stewart, she did both and much better. Those shoes look as they probably feel (they have no heel).
Alicia Keys – LOVE her voice but not this choice I’m afraid. All croc up top and torpedo down below. I think we need to remind this Diva that simple is key…
I think it wouldn’t be fair to leave out the boys for this event as some of them stepped up to the plate and gave the girls a run for their money! My Top 5 all share the same common bond- masculine, tonal and not too stitched up. Well done Fellas! Justin Timberlake/ Frank Ocean/ LL Cool J (I love him!)/ Mario Lopez/ Nelly
Honourable Mention – Katy Perry. I actually was never sure if I would ever say this but I liked Katy Perry’s look! This mint Gucci number is the most covered up and grown up I have ever seen her. Not a liquorice allsorts costume in sight!
