The SAG’s- well some critics call it the “SAD” Awards- the younger sister to the Oscars. These awards can deliver surprises as A-Listers opt for dare and bare, or play it snoozingly safe and stash their heavy hitting gowns for the big day. I have scoured the carpet for my faves, and my flops.
Jessica Pare in Jason Wu: Perfection! Yes, emerald is over but when you look like you have been carved by Caravaggio out of marble who cares! This woman is a goddess…
January Jones in Prabal Gurung: Again, these Mad Women never get it wrong! It is classic but the neckline gives it a twist- the hair and makeup round out this look, LOVE!!!
Claire Danes in Givenchy: Claire is hitting all the right notes lately- this is unusual with the checkered detail and the one shoulder and fabric are the essence of chic.
Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli: Me thinks Anne might be making a baby bump announcement anytime soon but this dress is divine! It combines frothy and fresh without being OTT. I love the length and her minimal hair and makeup let this Valli creation do all the talking.
Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior: Tres Bien! Miss Marion is a maverick for me, I love the tonal combo of this and the folds in front show off those incredible shoes- the multimillion dollar baubles don’t hurt either!
They could have called this ceremony the SAGGY Awards for all the ill-fitting and floppy actresses on the carpet!
Lea Michelle in Valentino: Beautiful colour, wrong woman- somehow Lea always looks contrived to me, like this took an army of people to put on and work. To me, effortless is best…
Julianna Margulies: I like the idea, not the execution- the heavy fabric combined with an even heavier hair switch drags Julianna into the doldrums- close, but not close enough for me.
Michelle Dockery in Chado Ralph Rucci: This could have been a winner. But the side boob and ill fitting front leave me wanting. I think a more modern style of hair would have given this look a lift…
Rose Byrne in Valentino: Yes, I am sure there are some of you out there that think this is floaty and feminine. To me this looks like Laura Ashley got in a fight with a cuttlefish. I think if this was in a block colour like navy (a certain trend this awards season) it would have worked so much better.
Julianne Moore in Chanel: I know, I can’t believe I am knocking Julianne either but I can’t look past the neckline (or lack thereof!) Plunging is punchy, but leave it to the younger starlets. I know in my heart Julianne has a secret weapon up her sleeve for the big event!
Some stars really upped the ante from the Globes so I think it’s time to give them a little credit…
Elisabeth Moss in D&G: Short, sharp and definitely shiny in D&G, Elisabeth kept it chic and simple and I really liked it!
Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan: Do I even have to explain myself? Sofia is silky and sexy and the neckline suits her perfectly. Sofia is fast becoming a worldwide darling and I know why- her combination of sex appeal and charisma appeals to men and women alike- Olay!
Ariel Winter in Alex Perry: I might be a little biased but I think Ariel looks like a princess in this Perry confection. It’s ethereal and age appropriate, and so nice to see an Australian on the ruby rug!
Mayim Bialik: Most Improved by far! Yes, we have seen similar before but Mayim looks elegant and effortless- a perfect combination for the red carpet.
Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford: Thank you Mr! So many men go for the sombre penguin suit as a safe option but JT looks suave in his Tom Ford suit- bringing plaid back…
