Australia has gone through a government whirlwind over the past few weeks with the induction of our first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. Whilst we aren’t here to comment on her political agenda, we are bringing you the low down on our new PM’s personal style, and how we can expect her fashion to evolve if she wins the next election.
Over the past few years we have seen Julia slowly making fashionable changes to her look. The whole country now knows that her partner is an ex- hair dresser, and it seems her short red bob is thankful for his attention. She has moved away from a very short cut in burnt orange into a silky and shiny cut in a powerful red. If we look back at 2008, Julia’s make up look is very plain, and lacks a certain amount of attention that could vitally rejuvenate her look. As we have seen in recent months however, she has given her skin and hair the attention it deserves with a fresh, revitalised look.
Of course as the current Prime Minister, Julia’s style is respectable and professional, but there have been definite improvements over the years. If we look back at 2008, Julia’s typical outfit would consist of a white collared shirt worn neatly under a long suit jacket and matching suit pants. Her colour of choice would typically consist of dull brown or grey- not necessarily a daring or feminine move.
Julia’s choice of jewellery over the years typically consisted of small earrings and a matching necklace, either in pearl or silver, in a simple, classic look. Looking back, the only time we have seen splashes of colour into her wardrobe has been for a media shoot or on her rare day off, where a touch of floral has gratefully appeared.
Although we haven’t been in awe of Julia’s outfits over the past few years, there have been definite improvements, especially if we fast forward to 2010 and the whirlwind of the past few months. Julia still maintains the suit look, but has introduced more feminine suit skirts into the mix. We especially loved her black suit jacket with white and black polka dot skirt which she wore in parliament in June. Earlier this year in May she sported a navy suit ensemble with violet floral piping around the hemline- little touches that reflect her feminine side!
At the mid winter ball in June 2010, Julia wore an elegant v neck cut dress embellished in crystal embroidery and cinched at the waist in a black belt. With the current election looming, Julia has been busy addressing the country with her campaign. Her latest fashion moment has been the perfectly crisp white suit she wore when meeting with the Governor General about the upcoming election. With matching pearl earrings and necklace, Julia has appeared strong, powerful and feminine.
Aside from her fashion evolution, Julia has clearly improved her grooming standards too. She now flaunts perfectly filed acrylic nails with French polish, and it appears that her teeth are much whiter too- perhaps she invested in a whitening job? Her make up is looking more flawless, as she carries herself tall with glowing cheeks, and a flattering colour palette to suit her hair and skin tone. We are guessing she is treated to a professional application each day, and we love that this has made her smile more and walk tall and proud.
What can we expect Julia to wear if she wins the election? Judging by her background she will always remain professional and a huge fan of the business suit, yet we can expect her look to become more sleek, chic and feminine.
