Karl Lagerfeld, the famously outspoken designer, is under scrutiny having jibed that curvacious singer, Adele is ‘a little too fat’ during an interview with a Parisian newspaper. These latest comments have, unsurprisingly, caused backlash on social media forums such as Twitter. What do you think? Has Karl gone too far this time?
Karl Lagerfeld has called Adele “a little too fat”.
The Chanel designer is a huge fan of the ‘Someone Like You’ hitmaker’s voice and thinks she has a beautiful face but claimed she is too overweight at the moment.
Speaking to French newspaper Metro, he said, “I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”
While Karl doesn’t rate newcomer Lana Del Rey’s voice as he does Adele’s he revealed he finds her more aesthetically pleasing. He said, “Lana Del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.”
This isn’t the first time Karl – who famously dropped 92 pounds in 13 months 10 years ago – has hit out at fuller figures. Claiming that fashion is about “dreams and illusions”, he has previously said, “No one wants to see curvy women. “You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly.”
Adele has spoken in the past about her weight saying, “I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life. It’s just never been an issue – at least, I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.”
