Kate Moss says the key ingredient to being a good designer is passion and Elizabeth Taylor tried on Donatella Versace’s ring but never gave it back to her.
The supermodel has been in the fashion industry for over 20 years and having worked with the top designers in the world, she knows what it takes for a designer to succeed.
Kate explained, ”A good designer has to have passion and imagination and determination because it is a tough business.”
The British beauty is the face of high street clothing store Mango and Colleen Sherin, Fashion Director at Saks 5th Avenue, believes it is a match made in fashion heaven.
Speaking at the Mango Fashion Awards at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, Colleen said, ”Kate Moss is beautiful and the perfect face for Mango, it’s such a great fit. She’s an icon who has always supported young fashion talent like Mango does.”
Kate added, ”Mango is amazing because they support the young designers who will eventually be designing for huge companies in the future.”
Kate, 38, has previously dished on the beauty secrets that keep her at the top of her game.
She said, ”I just use a really good moisturiser regularly and sunscreen. I also love to have a facial when I have the time and I drink lots of water.
But her number one tip is, ”to always use eyelash curlers before applying mascara to really open the eyes.”
The late actress – who was renowned for her love of fine jewels – once asked the Italian designer if she could try on a ring she was wearing, but never took it off her finger.
Donatella recalled, ”My brother collected vintage jewellery and I was wearing a ring that he’d given me – Elizabeth said in this extraordinary breathy voice, ‘Darling I love your ring, may I try it?’ And she didn’t give it back! She put it on and breathed, ‘Oh darling thank you, you didn’t have to do that!’ But I hadn’t!”
Despite Versace’s high fashion status, Donatella admits she was delighted to make a range of clothes for Swedish high street retailer H&M as her designs were created without her losing any integrity.
She added in a speech at the Oxford University Union, ”It gave me such self esteem because we saw this amazing appetite for the brand. H&M is a fantastic, incredible company – I had no idea how they’d make my designs come to life at those prices, but they did without restricting me at all.”
