We’re very excited for yet another Italian Film Festival—and, with Robert De Niro and a host of beautiful Italians to watch, it’s time to indulge in your favourite dolci, while enjoying the best films Italy has to offer. The festival will run for two weeks across all five capital cities, and will be screening 31 new films, plus three cult classics.
Matilde Maggio, one of Italy’s most beautiful young stars, will officially opened the Festival in Melbourne on 14 September and Sydney on 15 September. She also introduced select screenings of her latest film, Martino’s Summer, a sensitive coming of age drama, which screens as part of this year’s event. This gorgeous young actor certainly bringds an air of ‘la dolce vita’ to what already promises to be the most exciting season in the Festival’s history!
Rescu. got a sneak preview at some of the highlights:
The Ages of Love (Manuale D’amore 3)

Touted as Italy’s answer to the British rom-com Love Actually, Robert De Niro charms us in his best Italian, alongside seasoned performer, Monica Bellucci, in this all-star romantic comedy.
Dark Love (L’amore Buio)

In a disturbing, yet redemptive film about a horrible crime and the path back to retribution, Dark Love explores some fairly harrowing themes, with a sincerity and honesty that will impress.
A Quiet Life (Una Vita Tranquilla)

When a retired gangster is unexpectedly visited by the son he left behind, he must face the past that has returned with him—all while protecting his new family in his present life. A powerful film about forever running from your past.
The film festival will also be bringing the truly frightening horror masterpieces of Dario Argento back to the big screen. If you can bear it, we strongly recommend revisiting Suspiria (1977), a horror classic that deployed cinematography in the most powerful way.
The Lavazza Italian Film Festival is screening in selected Palace cinemas across September and October. To learn more, visit: www.italianfilmfestival.com.au
