At Lanvin’s Paris show, vibrant beats of salsa music filled the air and got us in the mood for clothes that would be perfect to wear to the Carnival in Rio, or when you simply feel like dancing – even if it is without the fruit bowl adorning your head.
Dresses were long, short, mid-length, hip-skimming, embroidered, embellished and bedazzling.
In signature Lanvin style, the use of drapery and luxurious, richly coloured fabrics were mastered in a way that can only be described as goddess-worthy. The rich silks and satins effortlessly and seductively fell off the shoulders. Pleats appeared to be ‘like collapsing fabric’ and dresses were layered upon each other to create an original take on the ruffled theme that has been so popular this season.
Structured black dresses were so much more than just classic LBDs. Rather they were created from silk organza and satin, with exquisite details like flounces, ruffles, bare shoulders, sheer panels, pleats and finished with a single gloved arm, a grown-up and glamorous tribute to the most famous solitary glove wearer: Michael Jackson.
It was hard to tell if the pleased faces of front rowers or the glittering jewels and crystals that dramatically adorned the models’ necks were more vibrant, and whether the clothes should be placed on statues to be worshipped… or real-life goddesses.
