In the age where plastic surgery is seen as the quick figure fix, think Heidi Montag, it is reassuring to know that a well fitted bra and quality shapewear can be the answer to your body image woes. Christine Ryan, General Manager of She lingerie, told RESCU, “wearing a correctly fitted bra can improve your silhouette and posture, giving you the comfort and confidence you need.”
Christine shared tips with Rescu. on how to identify your body shape, how to make the most of what you have got and the question that plagues us all; how to find the right bra!
Your body type and what works best:
Classic Pear: Jennifer Lopez
Pear: If you’re a pear shape, you’re likely to a flat tummy and be more shapely around your bottom and thighs. Your bottom half tends to be larger than your chest and shoulders.
Tip: The perfect way to balance your shape is with firm-fitting shapewear on your bottom, and a flattering push-up bra.
Sigourney Weaver, the Apple
Apple: Your body is mostly rounded. You have relatively broad shoulders, narrow hips and a round belly.
Tip: Shapewear will help keep your tummy tight and your confidence brimming.
Column: Nicole Kidman
Column: Straight up and down, your shoulders and hips are balanced and you have a small waist. Lucky you! Generally you can pick and choose your briefs, they all look good. But bras may be a problem.
Tip: Opt for a padded bra that will fill you out and create illusion of curves.
Curvy hourglass: Kim Kardashian
Hourglass: Think Marilyn Monroe. Tiny waist, curvaceous hips and fuller thighs.
Tip: When looking for a bra, try a push-up to accentuate your cleavage and wear slimming shapewear to create a smooth silhouette underneath your clothing.
Finding the right bra:
RESCU: Is getting a bra that is nice and tight around your back mean that it’s giving you extra support?
Christine Ryan: “If the band of your bra is digging or riding up at the back, it means that your bra is too small which will cause you discomfort. It is important that the band is supportive but not too tight. If you are naturally larger, an underwire bra will better support your breasts”.
RESCU: How do I stop my bra showing those ugly extra lumps through my shirt?
Christine Ryan: “Be sure that the cup isn’t too shallow so that you don’t have the double-boob effect. If you are naturally smaller, a push-up bra will create the illusion that you are better endowed.”
RESCU: Can the right bra improve my posture?
Christine Ryan: “Adjusting the straps on your bra is simple but effective way to improve your support and your posture. This can be quite tricky to do yourself. Have a professional help you find the perfect fit.”
