Superman epic Man of Steel premieres in Sydney, Chris Brown is once again accused of indecent behaviour towards a woman, and Angelina Jolie speaks out against rape at the UN headquarters in New York;

Man of Steel Premieres in Sydney
The latest Hollywood Superhero flick; Man of Steel, premiered last night at Event Cinemas on George Street, with a slew of Aussie celebs joining leading man Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe on the red carpet. Hundreds of fans donning Superman shirts and other themed outfits lined the black carpet awaiting the stars and celebrating the latest incarnation of the beloved Superman comic. Henry Cavill, the leading man and Jersey native even arrived half-an-hour before the carpet was scheduled to open so he could take photos with the fans! Henry was a relative unknown until winning the Superman role, and the actor’s profile has skyrocketed since taking on the iconic role. Understandably, Cavill is still adjusting to his newfound fame, and to the devotion of fans. “It’s one of those things where you just have to enjoy it,” the star said. “And I’m trying to enjoy this moment as much as I possibly can.”
Director Zack Snyder was also present. Having also made 300 and Watchmen, his experience in creating big budget blockbusters is a promising sign for what looks to be a high-tech and serious reimagining of the Superman story. The film has been a huge success already, having taken a quarter of a million dollars since opening.
Along with the big stars there was also a huge turnout of Australian talent, including Jesinta Campbell, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Timomatic, Michelle Bridges and Steve “The Commando” Willis. Extra international star power was provided by Merlin’s Bradley James, Harry Potter twins James and Oliver Phelps, and Alan Tudyk, who were all in town for the recent Supernova Expo.
Man of Steel is released in Australia on June 27.
Chris Brown Denies Nightclub Incident
Chris Brown is once again in hot water regarding his treatment of women, having been accused of badly injuring a 24-year-old girl inside an Orange County nightclub on Saturday night. The young woman told American gossip publication TMZ that she was in the VIP section with Chris at Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim after he had performed at the venue. When the bar was about to close, she claims Chris shoved her to the ground.
The young women, by the name of Deanna Gines told TMZ that she filed a police report, and a rep for the Anaheim Police Department confirms this event.
However, there is some contention regarding exactly what occurred. The nightclub’s owner has claimed that the singer did not touch the woman. “Based on the information which we have gathered from our security company, mall security, and other party goers which were at HEAT on Saturday night; it is apparent that the alleged incident regarding Chris Brown is false” he has been recorded as stating. He also claims that the young woman had repeatedly tried to jump on stage during Chris’ performance at the club — and later tried to rush Chris in his roped-off VIP area.

Angelina Takes on the UN
After travelling with Brad Pitt and their children during the promotions for his new film World War Z, Angelina Jolie is back to her philanthropic work, appearing at the UN‘s New York headquarters to make a stand against rape in war.
Angelina Jolie has long been known for her charitable work, including extensive work as a special envoy for the UN Refugee Agency. The actress has been an advocate for putting major international crises and global displacement issues into the spotlight for many years.
Jolie made her debut at the UN yesterday, speaking to the United Nations Security Council at the UN’s New York headquarters yesterday to insist that war-zone rape be a priority, calling it a “crime against humanity.”
Angelina shared stories of survivors she’s met around the world through her extensive travel in her role as goodwill ambassador, recalling several of the survivors she had met, including the mother of a five-year-old girl raped outside a police station in Goma in eastern Congo, and a Syrian woman she spoke to in Jordan last week, who asked to hide her name and face “because she knew that if she spoke out about the crimes against her she would be attacked again, and possibly killed”.
These words obviously made an impact, as the council has now adopted a legally binding resolution demanding the complete and immediate cessation of all acts of sexual violence by all parties to armed conflict.It also called for improved monitoring of sexual violence in conflict and urged the UN and donors to assist survivors.
This appearance by Angelina follows a recent appearance at a press conference in Jordan in honour of World Refugee Day, where her goal was to draw attention to the number of refugees coming out of war-torn Syria. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon paid tribute to Jolie for being the voice of millions forced to flee their homes “and now for the many survivors of wartime rape whose bodies have been used as battlegrounds”.
