As Sydney braces itself for the Royal touch down, the city is pulling out all the stops for their welcome. However, many Australians have noticed some gaping holes in the planned itinerary for the royal tour of Australia 2014.
Whilst the royals will visit Brisbane, Uluru, Adelaide and Canberra, one big omission from the planned itinerary is a visit to Melbourne. Despite Melbourne being Australia’s second most populous city and arguably one of our most exciting cultural hubs, the city has not made it onto the royal itinerary.
Many Melbourners have expressed their disappointment about missing out on the chance to see the royals, with many Australians being particularly excited at the chance to see Prince George.
The young royal family are currently on the New Zealand leg of the royal tour, and will land in Sydney tomorrow morning. Their three day Sydney itinerary includes a trip to the Blue Mountains, Sydney’s west, a day at the Royal Easter Show, speaking with survivors of the 2013 bushfires, visiting sick children at Manly’s Bear Cottage hospice and viewing the iconic surf lifesavers at Manly Beach.
On Wednesday morning, William and Kate will receive an official reception at the Sydney Opera House, followed by a boat trip on the harbour to Admiralty House where they will be the guests of Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove for the duration of their stay in Sydney.
This will be George and Kate’s first trip to Australia, and the ten-day visit will be a whirlwind tour of our nation. For Prince William, this is his third visit to Australia, like George, he came for the first time as a baby ion 1983 with Prince Charles and Diana.
