Fashionistas took on Sydney this weekend for the season’s most exciting style event, Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival. Fashion Week’s baby sister proved every bit as fabulous as the iconic week itself as crowds swarmed the Sydney Town Hall to view the latest trends, designer innovation and the much anticipated Kardashian Kollection.
The Trends Gala, a daily staple of the festival, allowed attendees to glimpse the highlights of Fashion Week with all of Australia’s most acclaimed designers sending their favourite looks down the runway. Hair maestro Richard Kavanagh lead the Redken team in creating sleek low ponytails and half braids, to compliment the varied design aesthetics on show. From the wild and wonderful creations of Romance Was Born to Alex Perry and Maticevski’s red carpet worthy eveningwear, the show was a unique snapshot of the Australian fashion industry.
The Market HQ runway show was another popular choice at the festival. One of Australia’s most popular online fashion destinations, Market HQ is home to many beloved brands including Mink Pink, Loverbird, Cameo and Talulah. The show was a true runway spectacular, kicking off with a display of live graffiti art to set the street style tone that Market HQ is most well known for. Attendees were again treated to a surprise when a troop of hip hop dancers took over the runway mid show, dancing to Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines.
No event at the festival drew such an enthusiastic crowd as the Kardashian Kollection. As this was the infamous Kardashian sisters‘ first runway show, fashionistas and fangirls stormed the Town Hall steps to get a look at the Kollection. The three sisters drew inspiration from their lifestyle of constant travel, using giant replicas of The Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building and Big Ben to lay the scene for their well-travelled Kardashian Kollection models. Looks varied from corporate chic to nightclub ready, and the Kardashian’s signature monochrome style was highly present (fortunately the girls’ beloved leopard print was not too much of an overriding force). Even the makeup and models themselves mimicked the three sisters with long dark hair, oversized lashes and nude lips favoured. Guests were treated to gifts from the Kardashian jewellery line to cap of a night of Kardashian Kraziness.
The Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival was above all a tribute to the exciting place Australia holds in the international fashion opportunity and a thrilling opportunity for Sydney -siders to sneak a peek into the exclusive world of fashion and style.
